Marcus and Margas Headed out in front of the others, where the path sloped upwards gradually As they walked along, Marcus broke the silence " I needed some time by myself, having to care for Rhiga so much was taking its toll.. we have an egg.."
_ already?' Margas turned and glanced at him with surprise " You sure aren't wasting any time, Marcus.. you can't be any older than twenty..'
"Nineteen actually , Rhiga is a few years older' Marcus admitted " Its my first child, but shes had a few previous kids..." "I see, well I think you're a bit young to be married Marcus , if I do say so. " Margas replied " well, I'm not a noble like you, I'll probably only have one mate over the course of my life'' Marcus said as they traversed a rocky patch in the path, which narrowed as they climbed higher. ' I will have others yes, but my future wives will not hold a candle t Ilsa in terms of beauty or connections.. I was quite lucky when the marriage was arranged..."

Adykon and the rest were behind the two scouts. He hoped for a quick and safe return for them, as the warrior had second thoughts about letting them get so far ahead of the rest. What if they ran into an enemy army? What if they got lost? What if Dememoras showed up? :blink:

He shoved those thoughts aside, but they quickly resurfaced as he saw Rhiga's expression of worry. She normally didn't take things like this, but now that she had a husband and a child to worry about, she was no longer in direct control of everything that mattered to her.

As the group was walking along the road to vidri. The group could hear a noise..it was like the wind...but no wind could be felt...the air had a slight stench to it. "stop, somethings wrong....very wrong" said Jake as he moved his hand in front of the group like a barrier. Just then, out of no where a small group of demoras soldiers jumped down from the side of the road into the groups path. "what the hell?!" yelled Jake as he and rex got into a combat stance and drew their swords. "looks like we got us some easy kills." said one of the soldiers. "Bring it ugly" said Rex. "why you little!" said the same soldier as he and the other two ran at the group. Jake managed to block one of the blows from a soldier but got hit with the tail in the face.

As the party keep going, Herril had his eyes closed, he was concentrating but still managing to walk with no problems. - "There are some small enemy groups, maybe backup groups or groups that are resting from their assault on Aerta's tower, but they are closer to us than they are from the tower itself." - He then kept silence again as he was trying to figure out more things, like their numbers and what are they are really up to. Kelassa just looked at him, she was walking alongside the Psyonic, very amazed that he could walk normally while keepinh his eyes closed.

Eriol, in the mean time, was walking silently, his arms crossed in front of him. Even though he has wary eyes on his surroundings, part of his mind is in his homeland. He is thinking about his son and that he'll like to return as soon as possible, but the menace of Dememoras is just too big and it seems that it will have no end. The Gaean panther just sighed as he looked forward and asked Adykon - "Adykon, any word from our scouts?"

"I'm afraid not. They haven't returned yet. Herril, can you contact them mentally? Can you ask them to report what they have found? Or, better yet, can you see what they are seeing and share it with me?" Adykon was quick to adapt to having a psionic in the party.

Marcus and Margas were still ahead of the others, but they would meet up soon.

Herril looked at Adykon and replied. - "To see what somebody else is seeing means that I must enter the other's mind more deeply than what is needed to communicate something, so I will first ask them what are they seeing and ask for permission." - It was obvious that Herril was very polite in saying that, because they are all part of a team in a quest to defeat a great evil. But he is indeed able to see what other people see.

The male Dracon concentrated a bit more and reached the scouts, speaking to them mentally. - "Marcus, Margas... Adykon is asking about what you have seen so far. And maybe if you can allow me to see what you are seeing and share it with the group's leader... if that is fine with you."

there are a large contingent of troops a couple miles ahead of us, heading north' came Margas' reply " We will be rejoining you shortly. We had to avoid being spotted, which would have proved considerably.. problematic for us, and the rest of you. How many there are exactly, I do not know, but it is safe to say, the number is well into the thousands." Within the next fifteen minutes, both Dracon males appeared, coming over a ridge in the road, and walked down to meet them. "We're on the right track , I think" Marcus said , upon seeing Adykon. "Sorry, for the delay Adykon, but we had to lay low to avoid them spotting, which would have likely resulting in both our deaths." he said, flinching slightly.

Adykon saw the two males return to the group. Wasting no time, he quickly asked them the question he dreaded to ask. "Is there any way post those soldiers? We cannot fight thousands of them. There's just no way for us to beat that many of them."

Eriol also went closer to Marcus and Margas, but he remained a couple of steps behind Adykon. - "We knew from the start that we could encounter a situation like this one. But nobody here is capable of battling all of them so we do need a plan." - He is now waiting if the two scouts have the good news he and the rest od the party are waiting to hear.

"If they are as many as I was able to see... darn, not even me I would be able ti successfully trick all of them. But maybe, we could still try and deceive their leaders into leading the soldiers into a different path than ours." - Herril was unsure though. He saw the recent battle in Minbenthac, but that now it is different, now he and Kelassa are in the frontline.

In the mean time, Kelassa was with the other members of the party, feeling bad since she feels she cannot do much, or anything at all, right now. But she is doing her best to remain strong.

Jake responded to the tail in the face non too kindly...once he recovered he got his sword and he severed the tail in half. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!" screamed the dracon in agony. The dracon took a few steps back and he threw his sword to the side and he gasped in horror at the blood gushing from the stump that used to be his tail. Blood spattered everywhere and some splashed onto jake and the rest. The other two dracons watched the horror before them. "get that one!" they yelled in unison. "ah?!?" thought Jake "double teamed!". The first dracon swung his sword for jake's head but missed...the other dracon soon followed and he got jake along the chest..blood could be seen seeping from the wound at a slightly fast rate. Rex jumped in front of jake and began to try and defend him while jake crawled away clutching his chest as the blood continued to flow.

Toby flew in front of Jake, trying to shield the human while unleashing a gout of flame from his mouth.

FWOOOSSHH!!

The young dragon was still learning how to manipulate his fire, but ever since his fight with Violet over Minbenthac, he had proven quite skilled already.

"Jake, I've got these guys, focus on the others!" Toby shouted as he prepared to unleash a second burst of fire.

Jake coughed up some blood and he spat it out. He got up off the ground...gripped his sword with both hands and he charged at the enemy so that he could help rex and toby. Jake lunged forward with the sword and he got the first dracon in the left arm

"AHHH!" yelled the dracon soldier as he clutched his arm in pain "you little brat!"

The soldier leaped at jake with his sword and he swung his sword from side to side trying to catch jake and slice him...

Toby drove off three soldiers with his flaming breath, burning one severely, and chasing the other two off. The attack was starting to die down; none of the soldiers had been told about a Dragon, or that a human youth would be so hard to defeat.

"YEAH! Take that! Get out of here, you sorry excuses for Dragons! You may have some of our blood, but you have NONE of our power!" Toby was having the time of his life shouting at them.

Since the fight was less extreme Jake looked around for something that he could transmute (change into something else). Jake spotted a large rock and immediately walked over to it. e placed both his hands on the rock and a small amount of energy was used and some miniature lightning streaks could be seen coming out of the rock...the rock then turned into a bandage that jake could use to protect the wound on his chest. Jake quickly removed his shirt and wrapped the bandage around his chest and back covering the mark and the wound he had just received. Jake left his shirt where it was and he returned to the fight, he finished off the severely burnt soldier. Rex, Toby and Jake were also fighting the last two of the still fighting soldiers

"That's the last of them. The rest have all run away" Toby gasped as his flame started to die down. As a red dragon, he would one day have great mastery over flame, mastery which extended as far as a raging wildfire, but in his youth, the juvenile dragon had reached his limits, and smoke, not fire, poured out of his mouth.

"you look like you had fun" said Rex as he examined the smoke from toby's mouth. Exodar stepped forward since the fight was over.

"dude, that was hardcore" he said smiling "oh, by the way. are you guys okay?"

"i'm good" said Jake as he walked over and picked his shirt up off the ground and put it on.

"yeah, i'm good too" said Rex "i guess we're back to searching for Adykon and the rest?"

Jake nodded his head.

"We should. Alright, let's keep on going, and hope that there are no more nasty surpises waiting for us." Toby bounded into the air with one swoop of his wings, and flew on above the rest.

Meanwhile...

Hekaga was never the best place to live. In fact, for most of its residents, it was a downright awful place to be. For the rich, it was a a good place, if one didn't mind all the poverty, treachery, and downright poisonous political culture. The old king had been ruling for a long, long time; far too long for many, and for a particular son, the old Dracon was long past his time on the throne...

Gathered around the Prince of Hekaga were a number of heavily armed Dracons, bearing his father's symbol on their steel armor. These soldiers had been hand-picked to serve the king, even to their dying breath; in another era, even talking about what the prince had called them in to do would be a death sentence! But these were not the old times. Now it was "business as usual."

There is another route, unfortunately it leads much farther to the north, than the one the army is using. " Margas replied "It connects with the other road a little ways in front of the castle- We were able to overhear some of the soldiers talking, and apart from the usual complaints about soldier life, they did mention the other route- but it is a slower route, it will likely take a few days, and I don't think we have that kind of time to spare if we are going to reach the castle in time" Margas finished.
_ Marcus frowned. ' We don't have a choice my lord, we have to take that route, perhaps we can create a shortcut that will make the path quicker."
_ Ilsa spoke up " If we want to save Aerta , we cannot afford to waste any time arguing. Herrill, can you make contact with her? Find out if she can hold out for a few more days. If not, then naturally we'll need to redouble our efforts."
