The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

that would easily set a new record for most posts, in fact it would be more than the current #2 and #3 posters combined. But posting is about quality not quabntity.  1 long well-written, well thought out post, is better than 1000 one liners..

As I have said before... and will say so again... I cannot hope to maintain that level for long... as it is, just taking the time for quality over quantity will make that level very hard or impossible to maintain. 150 was an exaggeration...

Of course, some posters here have over 10,000 posts... getting close to 20,000, so some people have no right to complain about posting by their standards...

Do remember most with those with high numbers (myself included) have been around since 2004.  10,000 over five years is not excessive at five posts a day.

I've been here since 2006... and have an average of fewer than 3 posts per day. At the very least, that has to change.

It'll take quite a bit of activity if you hope to see that number jump.  I'm at 5.7 myself (even less if I used my other account) and I don't see why that avg. posts per day number matters.

It is just a good sign. I also know that if nothing else, it means that I am pro-active... and yes, I am working on quality too.

You don't need a high post count to be proactive.  I believe Brian (Aves) was the proactive member last year (or nominated often) and had not been excessively active, but offered a lot of good ideas for the GOF.

That's why I am starting threads of my own, now. If those are found to be good ideas, then that counts towards being proactive.

Just don't make too many of them on basis: "Throw as much against the wall as you can and hope that something will actually stick to it." :p

That is why I am making my posts longer and more detailed in addition to being more numerous. I am even preparing an RP in which there has to be a certain level of detail per post in order for it to work (maybe adding a minimum number of words per post, like 30?)

It's good that you are trying to work at a certain award for next year. However, when you make a thread, it has something that you think everybody may find interesting and can put on a lively discussion to. Too many topics now adays are kind of thrown out just because (I'm probably guilty of that myself here). If it's something that isn't going to sustain a long discussion, it may be best to keep it in pm's.

On your rp, detail is good, but too much detail makes it more work than fun. Remember people rp to have fun, not a hard time coming up with something. Normally, rp's with less detail required tend to go longer because they are easier and in the end appear more fun. However, it is good you are trying to put thought into an rp. Just try not to make it like a Dungeons and Dragons obsessive rp.

I don't have the stats or the time to make a D&D rp, so don't worry... of course, this is coming from a guy with a featured article on the D&D wiki (THEY recognize me there!), so I could make that if I wanted to... but I don't want to, and neither does anyone else, I think.

As it is, threads like "Ancient Roman trivia" and "Chain Reaction" are fairly attractive and by no means are limited to the interests of just one person.

The grammar in that last post was so bad, I'm not exactly certain what you said... but, it looks like you said that those games catch on because the topics are interesting. Of course, neither ancient Greek nor Roman trivia existed on this site until I added them...

I can't believe that I am saying this... given my recent posting spree, but... slow down a bit, at least when you type. And yes, I know myself well, eventually, I will get tired of this posting spree, slow down, and put it in perspective... but until then...

Is there any way for me to see how many posts I am making per day, besides the average counter? I don't want to overdo it... yes, even I don't want to overdo it.
