The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Torvin began kneading Cassia's back.

She's your friend not your girlfriend. he thought to himself as he massaged her back.

Cassia had no thoughts of being a girlfriend to him. She didn't think in such terms. Being an equine, she thought in terms of mates and friends, not in terms of spouses and boyfriends. While she and Torvin were neither mates nor a couple, she did enjoy his company, and right now, she enjoyed his back rub.

"Ohh... that's good. Could you go a little lower, please?"

The girls neared the inn, and Halo was waiting outside for them.  "We got two rooms," he said, "but they'll only allow Storm Paw in the stable."

Storm Paw snorted.  He'll be glad to be back in his lair in Willowrock...

"At least we have a room" Selene told the others as she stepped inside the inn, and as expected, she was greeted with the sound of music, the sight of large crowds, and the scent of dozens of Dracons, some of which were already inebriated.

"Hopefully, it will quiet down before we go to sleep. I know that inns such as this tend to be loud at the oddest hours of the night."

"We had one of those parties with almost no one but female Dracons drinking themselves dead drunk," Halo noted.  "We remained in the room for most of the night.  Anyway, there's a room for me and Youri, and one for you two.  Both on the second floor."

"Good. If its on the second floor, the it shouldn't be so damn loud" Selene told the others. "I need to lie down. This has been a very long day." The silver-skinned female climbed the rough wooden stairs, each step creaking under her clawed feet. When she reached the appointed room, Selene opened the door and lay down on the bed, still clothed, but she didn't sleep just yet.

"Does anyone want anything to eat? Maybe I should ask." She thought to herself, realizing that the others might not have eaten yet, and that she was hungry herself.

As Selene left to the room, Shiana & Halo walked with Storm Paw to the stable in the back.  The senmurv snorted at the 'accommodations'.

"Relax," Shiana said, stroking his ears.  "You're not living here forever."

"Even so," Storm Paw replied in Sylvan.  "This is nothing like my lair."

"He's not the only one eager to get home," Halo said.

"Youri?" Shiana responded.

Halo nodded.  "He's been sensing something ever since that battle in the catacombs.  I've sensed it too, through the wind..."

"Surely, it should just be the adrenaline we still have from the fight."

"Perhaps...  But maybe that fight was only the start of something larger.  Probably something we might not be able to handle the next time."

"So what should we do?  Even if the Knights of the Cloak would be needed, they won't be here for a week going the same path as we."

"I thought some of them could fly."

"I doubt this something big enough for Dereksivat to get involved in, even if we face a demon or a devil."

"It is a chance we should take."

"Fine.  We could send Storm Paw back with a message."

In the room next to Selene's, Youri was making up for missing his meditation training while he's been here in Minthabec...

Selene got up and went down the stairs, taking care as she walked over the rough floor, greatly relieved when she reached the large rug in the middle of the common room of the inn. As usual, it was busy at this hour, and most of the patrons were more interested in drink than in food. This presented Selene with a problem. At this hour, many dracons who came to an inn's counter were looking for something other than alcohol...

"Excuse me? Hello? Bartender? Hello? Do you have any food to serve at this hour?" the sorceress could barely be heard over the din of the crowd. Eventually, a large, red-skinned male approached her, a cup in his hand.

"Hmm? Wha' you want? The kitchen has been closed for the night, but we still got some roast pork. Ya want some o' that?"

"Alright. That'll do. How much for the meal?"

"That'll be three coppers. Be right back." In a moment, the barkeep returned with a platter of lukewarm pork with some salt on it. Not exactly fine dining. Selene paid for her food and set about eating it.

"Much obliged, girl. If I were you, I'd eat that quickly and go. Some folks 'round here are lookin for a different kinda meat, if ya get my point." His words were all too true; poorer females could hope to attract male attention at places like this, and the female's being there was taken as a sign that she was in the mood for it. Selene was not, however, and she made sure to let the first male, a green one with a cracked left horn, know that by giving off a soft growl as he reached out to touch her silvery skin.
He backed off pretty quickly. There were lots of other females at the inn, and none of the males searching for one would be disappointed, given that they were outnumbered two-to-one by females at this bar.

Finishing her food, Selene rose and turned to find Halo and Storm Paw, only to find a red-robed, brown-skinned male following her. After it was clear that he was following her in specific, she turned to address him.

"Why are you following me?" She asked, knowing what the answer probably was.

"I know, I know, you aren't interested. At least, not in the other males. I know you have magic, and so do I!" With that, a red glow emanated from his claws, displaying his power. Selene was not impressed.

"So? You have magic. I sensed it too. Just because you can cast spells doesn't mean I'm gonna hop into bed with you. I'm not in the mood for... you know. Just don't feel like it right now. I wasn't refusing them because they didn't have magic." This was not the first time in her life that this had happened to her, and she was getting tired of it.

"Ah. Alright. No harm done. My name's Argus, by the way" he said as he extending a clawed hand to shake hers. "I'll leave you be. I'm no stalker. I won't be around in these parts long, anyway; there's business in foreign lands to take care of. I figured, this could be the last time I'd see a female dracon in months, so..."

"I get the picture. I'm sure there are plenty of others at the bar who would be happy to... oblige you. Now, if that is all, good night." Selene turned and left, happy that Argus hadn't pressured her for anything, but a bit unhappy as she suspected he only didn't because she was a mage like he was. Whether he respected her out of the common bonds of being a mage or out of fear of her power was unknown, and frankly, she didn't care.

I apologize for not posting in the roleplay for such a long time. But I recently started considering leaving this roleplay. I not really contributed much to this roleplay anyway. Not sure if I will leave or not, but I'm considering it.

Oh and I know I posted this in the actual roleplay instead of the discussion. I apologize; I couldn't find the discussion topic of this RP.

As Storm Paw was settling down for the night, Halo & Shiana talked until they see Selene approaching them.

"Something just happened?" Shiana asked.  She could tell Selene did not look happy.

"Oh, the usual. Girl walks up to a bar, guys try to get girl into bed... that thing. Most of the females at the bar would have said yes eventually had they been in my position, but... that isn't what I'm here for. How are you two doing?" Selene was still annoyed, but she was still glad to be out of that bar.

"We're doing fine," Halo replied.  "We've just been talking about what Silverfang said after we left the catacombs."

"We may have to report to the Knights of the Cloak about what happened today when we get to Willowrock," Shiana added.  "They'll have a better chance of tracking these kinds of things than us."

Torvin nodded and went a little lower. He noticed that he was starting to become attracted to Cassia. It was the first time he actually fell in love.

"So Cassia..." he trailed of, not knowing what else to say.

-------------------

The Strutho went up to Alima, who was in the living room of Torvin's cottage.

"So Alima, are the customers aren't bothering you?" he asked.

Alima looked over at the Strutho, a bit surprised. "Not really. The caves where I came from were usually pretty loud, what with all the fighting and mining and adventurers always dropping in on us..."

Cassia sighed in relief. "Ahh... I needed that. Thanks." She turned around to Torvin, not sure if the attraction between her and him was the product of love, chemistry, or the fact that it had been a long time since they had seen another of their own kind of the opposite gender. She decided it was all three.

"Torvin, there's no need to feel ashamed. However you are feeling, I probably feel the same way, if not stronger. Whatever you want is fine with me. We can stay here in the pool, we can get out, and if you want to do something else..."

"Anyway, we should be turning in," Halo said as he started towards the main entrance of the inn.

"We could do some more exploring of the city," Shiana agreed.  "Since we'll be here for another day before our next ferry arrives."

Storm Paw nestled himself down in the straw to get some sleep.

Selene moved over to Shiana, her draconic mind still full of questions about where she was going and what she was doing.

"Excuse me, Shiana. I was hoping we could have a chat. I'd like to know more about the society where we are going. What this place is like."

As Halo left to his room, Shiana leaned against the wall to answer Selene's questions.  "I realized that where we come from would be much different than these cities," she replied.  "Willowrock isn't as massive as this one, but it's certainly a large city with its share of towers.  It's governed by a mayor and a senate, and it's protected by its own military and loosely by the Knights of the Cloak.  Mostly humanoids live there, but you'll find many different races visiting the city.  Maybe even a few Dracon traders."

"What is a senate? Is that a group of mages?" Selene had no idea what a legislature was, although she could infer what a mayor was. Dracons had kings in the cities, nobles in the cities and countryside, chiefs of the less developed tribes, and lord, governors, and sometimes military commanders in charge of vassal cities that were under control of the eight main cities, but concepts such as representation were foreign to her.

"I think very few of them are mages," Shiana replied.  "They're...usually people with high status in their community chosen to be representatives of wherever they came from.  And there are female senators among them."

Storm Paw drifts off to sleep...
