Selene got up and went down the stairs, taking care as she walked over the rough floor, greatly relieved when she reached the large rug in the middle of the common room of the inn. As usual, it was busy at this hour, and most of the patrons were more interested in drink than in food. This presented Selene with a problem. At this hour, many dracons who came to an inn's counter were looking for something other than alcohol...
"Excuse me? Hello? Bartender? Hello? Do you have any food to serve at this hour?" the sorceress could barely be heard over the din of the crowd. Eventually, a large, red-skinned male approached her, a cup in his hand.
"Hmm? Wha' you want? The kitchen has been closed for the night, but we still got some roast pork. Ya want some o' that?"
"Alright. That'll do. How much for the meal?"
"That'll be three coppers. Be right back." In a moment, the barkeep returned with a platter of lukewarm pork with some salt on it. Not exactly fine dining. Selene paid for her food and set about eating it.
"Much obliged, girl. If I were you, I'd eat that quickly and go. Some folks 'round here are lookin for a different kinda meat, if ya get my point." His words were all too true; poorer females could hope to attract male attention at places like this, and the female's being there was taken as a sign that she was in the mood for it. Selene was not, however, and she made sure to let the first male, a green one with a cracked left horn, know that by giving off a soft growl as he reached out to touch her silvery skin.
He backed off pretty quickly. There were lots of other females at the inn, and none of the males searching for one would be disappointed, given that they were outnumbered two-to-one by females at this bar.
Finishing her food, Selene rose and turned to find Halo and Storm Paw, only to find a red-robed, brown-skinned male following her. After it was clear that he was following her in specific, she turned to address him.
"Why are you following me?" She asked, knowing what the answer probably was.
"I know, I know, you aren't interested. At least, not in the other males. I know you have magic, and so do I!" With that, a red glow emanated from his claws, displaying his power. Selene was not impressed.
"So? You have magic. I sensed it too. Just because you can cast spells doesn't mean I'm gonna hop into bed with you. I'm not in the mood for... you know. Just don't feel like it right now. I wasn't refusing them because they didn't have magic." This was not the first time in her life that this had happened to her, and she was getting tired of it.
"Ah. Alright. No harm done. My name's Argus, by the way" he said as he extending a clawed hand to shake hers. "I'll leave you be. I'm no stalker. I won't be around in these parts long, anyway; there's business in foreign lands to take care of. I figured, this could be the last time I'd see a female dracon in months, so..."
"I get the picture. I'm sure there are plenty of others at the bar who would be happy to... oblige you. Now, if that is all, good night." Selene turned and left, happy that Argus hadn't pressured her for anything, but a bit unhappy as she suspected he only didn't because she was a mage like he was. Whether he respected her out of the common bonds of being a mage or out of fear of her power was unknown, and frankly, she didn't care.
