The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

"I heard there are quite a few Dracon mages in this city," Halo added.  "I guess it would be hard to find a specific one."

Shiana stepped forward.  "Speaking of mages, do you recommend any that can bestow magic on weapons?  Preferably arrows?"

"If you need something enchanted, you should go to a magic store... a really good one is called "Ophion's"... I'll show you where it is on this map" the bartender said, pulling out a map and pointing out the store. "This guy's got everything, potions, powders, scrolls, the works. He can totally enchant arrows."

"That could work," Halo replied.  "Thanks for the help.  So how much for the water again?"

"Water is free" came the reply. "The rooms are expensive... but water is free. You know how much the average Dracon makes for a day's work? One silver piece. Ten silver pieces are worth one gold piece... it all adds up pretty fast."

"I see," Halo replied as he took back the water skins.  "Thanks again."

The trio left the inn back to the bustling streets of the city, navigating their way to the magic shop owned by this Ophion.  They paused to look it over before entering...

As expected, the shop was filled with magical goods... and customers clamoring to buy them. Many goods were purchased by Ophion from the makers of the items, but many were made by the owner of the shop and his wife. Scrolls, potions, and enchantments were usually made or bestowed on site; goods like rings or amulets had to be purchased, but when the enchantment was given in the back room of the shop, the price increased dramatically.

The trio were packed into the chaos of the shop, and tried to navigate their way through the shop.

"At least we know this place has a good reputation," Youri said.

"But now we have no idea which one of these people is Ophion," Shiana replied.

"He has to be here," Halo responded.  "He'd be around to handle such a crowd if this happens each day."

Ophion was indeed there... he was running the store at the counter. He and some temporary workers helped keep the place stocked and made sure that customers were served. At the moment, he was selling a jar of toadstool powder to a customer...a rare ingredient in the desert.

"Well, there's a line to that counter," Halo pointed.  "You can wait there."

Shiana sighed and walked to the end of the line, pulling her arrow quiver loose so she could take it off when she reaches the counter.

Youri and Halo stood back to look around.

"A number of these Dracons are a little young," Youri examined.

"You're right.  There has to be an academy around.  There wouldn't be that many spellcasters in one place if there wasn't one."

Several of the Dracons were indeed young; teenage males and female purchasing spell components for their training as mages...

Eventually, the line shortened. Halo and Youri could now make their purchase.

There were several schools of magic in the city. Many of them focused on one particular field, some focused on all fields. Most students here were from the latter. Ophion's was a store that had a good reputation, good items, and good prices.  :)

And the shelves had the most interesting items on display:

"I'm glad I don't have to worry about such things," Youri replied as he looked around the shop.

Shiana removed her quiver full of arrows and sets it on the counter in from of her.  "I'd like to have these arrows enchanted," she said in Draconic, a little better than she tried the first time.

Harly read through the history book he borrowed from the library while he stayed at the temple, and it gave him some key insights into the entire Dracon race.  Things such as how they dressed, what they ate, and what their customs were. Magic seemed to be a part of everything - a concept that the former sea captain found detestful.

If one could simply wave their hands and issue a command to the world, and it obeyed, then how would they learn the true value of hard work and time? Tasks that could take an entire day to complete could be done in minutes, so life would quickly lose it's value.

Machines may have failed Menosan, his home, but he could see magic failing these people too - only the results would be even worse then how his former land had suffered.  Pollution, steam bursts and rotating gears can harm one's person and even take their life, but from what he had learned a single mistake in magic can cost you your soul.

Harly could see the fall coming for this people, and he planned to not be here when it did occur. With a yawn he settled in to rest for the night as the priests of the temple extinguished the candle lights that lit the antrium.

"Good night good sir," said one of them as he passed the human's bed.

Tommarow would be an important day - the day he left this place behind.

"Certainly miss. I'll enchant these arrows for you right away." Ophion replied. "My wife will take over the counter while I'm busy with that." A moment later, Ophion went into the back room and not even half a minute after that, a female approached the counter. This was Aurescia, his wife.

In many lands, the enchantment of some arrows could cost hundreds of gold coins! But here, the prices was only about 1/10th that... the total cost would come to about 35 gold coins. This was due to the more abundant nature of magic in these lands, and the reduction of price due to volume. Ophion still made a profit, as enchanting these arrows only cost him some effort and a bit of time, no materials required.

Meanwhile..

Kos tried to dislodge himself from the stone carving by using his tail to get his loincloth unstuck. Eventually, he succeeded, but fell to the ground. He was angry. Very angry.

Elsewhere...

Shal'thzar's food was brought to her in a tray. It consisted of Smoked Quail, Pear Sorbet, some fresh bread, and a choice of water, or mead.

Shiana watched as Ophion left and his wife took his place at the counter.  She fished into her coin purse.  "So how much will it be for the full quiver?" she asked.

"Ahh, smells delicious!" Said Shal'thzar licking her lips as she smelled the food coming.

Shal'thzar thanked the maid for the food, but she did not take the mead as she wasn't much of a drinker(Plus she still had water :p). She was able to eat all of the pear sorbet and had most of the smoked quail finished but was unable to finish it and the fresh bread. She pulled out a cloth she had in one of her pouches, wrapped the food up and placed it on the table. After she had her fill, she went over to the bed and fell asleep..

OOC:Not sure if it was a maid. If not i will edit. And on a subject changer, new Dinosaur found i guess. Raptorex. Saw an illustration and a Mini T_Rex with feathers just doesn't match, i dont care if they say Dinosaurs have more in common with birds then modern day reptiles.. Sorry about the subject changer :rolleyes

(OOC: Yes, it was a maid)

Kos found the bullies who had put him in the rather... embarrassing position. They were all much older than he was... and there were five of them. This was after class, in the schools sandy yard...

"What are you going to you, Kos?" said the lead bully, a punk with long horns.

"Yeah! Your father got Jax in trouble for stealing that stuff from his magic store!" shouted another bully, this one with one horn and green skin.

"So, we took it out on you as an example for him!" said the third bully, who had an unusually long tail.

"He messes with us, we mess with those close to him!" The lead bully said. They didn't DARE attack a mage...

Kos was angry... very mad... so mad, that he lifted his hands, and feeling, an unusual heat in his right hand, tried to conjure a fireball! Sparks flew out...

"hahahaha! Look at him! Trying to use magic! The baby thinks he can hurt me! The little retard couldn't cast a- BOOM!" A fireball emerged from Kos's hands, hitting the bully in the stomach, and sending him flying through the air with a nasty but survivable burn.

"You want me to enchant the quiver itself, too?" Ophion asked. "For all of the arrows in the quiver, it will be 35 gold pieces. For the quiver as well... a extra ten pieces. "

Shiana looked up.  "How do you enchant a quiver?" she blinked.  "Usually only my ammunition needs enchanting."

"A quiver can be enchanted in several ways" Ophion told Shiana. "Usually, the enchanted quiver is used to enchant the arrows that are placed in it, so you don't have to keep going to a mage to enchant your arrows each and every time you get a new bunch. Now, the enchantment placed on the quiver produces a less powerful enchantment on the arrows than the mage places on them, but it is still very useful."

This news perked Shiana up.  "OK!  Enchant the quiver, too, please."  She then pulls out and counts 45 gold coins.

Youri crossed his arms as he watched.  "Back in some places you find females shopping for luxurious and useless items," he said to Halo.

"But, as you think of it," Halo replied, "You don't see much difference in between..."
