Two more tears fell off of Jared's beak.

"Yes, Rinkus! Yes!...*sniffffff* *sob* Yes, I do." Jared sobbed and cried happily

He was so happy now, that, his eyes were now flooding with tears, and his throat began to swell up. It was time. Then, Jared asked Rinkus with a broken-up voice, crying his eyes out...

"Rinkus *Sniiiiiiif!* W-- W--- Will you----Will you adopt me and b-b-be my new dad?!?!?! I'll be a great son for you. I pr-pr-promise!"

whispered Jared, he had now lost his voice, he was that happy. Now he could only hope the pink flyer would adopt him. Jared wanted to be Rinkus's son more than anything in the whole world.

Pterano, Devon as well as every one else was all ears, listening VERY carefully to the upcoming father son moment. Pterano and Devon smiled at eachother fondly, remembering the first time Devon called him "Dad".

Rinkus was at first stunned into silence, and then, because he simply hadn't been expecting this. He stared wide eyed at Jared, unable to speak. He wrung his tail tightly, and then, he once again broke out into smile.

"Well... of course Jared. If it's what you truly want. I can most certainly do so. Why don't you come over here then?" he asked, spreading his wings wide, and beaming now. "I'd be more than happy to take you in. You need it after all you've been through I think... so sure... I'll do this for you." he explained, nodding.

Jared's heart raced, His eyes widened like never before. He was so happy, happier than he had EVER been before. He gasped, and sobbed...and ran right over to his new father, giving the pink rhamphorhynchus a big hug, that he never EVER wanted to end. Jared nuzzled his head right against Rinkus, feeling his soft, white neck ring, and his warm, pink belly..listening to his gentle heartbeat. Then, Jared whispered to his dad,

"*Snifffff!* ....*snifffff*.....*snifff!*. *Ohhh* *Th..th...th..th..th....th...th...th..thank y-y-you!.. *sniiff* I....*sniff* .I....*sniiif*..I...I.*sniiff*..I LOVE YOU!...D-DAD! "

said Jared, still bawling his eyes out, flooding tears into Rinkus's belly. Rinkus's pink wings felt so warm wrapped around Jared's body. The pink flyer's hug felt so warm and loving. Jared NEVER wanted it to end. He was Rinkus's new son!!

Devon and Pterano smiled at the moment, tears pouring down their eyes. Devon turned to his father. "I love you, Dad!!!"

"I love you too, son!" Pterano replied, opening his arms for Devon to hug him.

The blue flyer threw his arms around the red flyer's neck, feeling his strong, warm, loving arms slip around him as Pterano lifted him off the ground and spun him in mid air before placing him on the floor again.

They broke the hug, staring fondly into eachother's eyes. Devon placed his hand on Pterano's cheek, only for the red flyer to return the favor. They hugged again for what seemed like forever before Devon pulled back, slipping his arms around his father's waist and laying his head right up against Pterano's chest. He smiled as he listened to that heartbeat of his. It was steady, smooth, relaxing, and comforting as well.

Devon loved the red flyer. He loved him like he had never loved anyone before. And it was so good to know that Pterano loved him just as much. They knew they would always be together, forever and always. His spirits lifted when he felt a lips kiss his forehead as he blushed happily, burying his face into Pterano's chest and taking in that fatherly scent of his.

The two remained that way for a few minutes and watched as Rinkus held Jared in his arms, kinda like the way Pterano's holding him. It was such a loving site for them to see.

Harper giggled a bit as Miss Artie called her uncle out on saying he was brave when he was really just scared. It wasn't long into Pterano's story, though, before she was enraptured along with Petrie in listening to the tale, full attention given.

"Wow, you really escape from right inside sharptooth!" Petrie asked, obviously impressed.

"For...really real?" Harper asked, sounding both impressed and skeptical as she glanced between Pterano and Miss Artie who she had already figured out enough about to feel would say something if it wasn't true. She figured it was though and smiled, "Well way to go being a hero!".

Both hatchlings glanced over as Jared started speaking and frowned as he spoke on his own father. As Jared told how his father had died, Petrie and Harper glanced to each other. It wasn't something they thought on a lot, fathers, theirs having died some time before they even hatched.

They both wished to say something to the at least adolescent flyer to cheer him up but weren't sure of what. They just watched with small smiles as Rinkus fully took Jared in.

It was oddest for Petrie to see, last he'd seen of the pink flyer before him being so mean. But watching this, the little flyer finally believed he had changed. He didn't know why he was surprised though, as he, Littlefoot, Cera and Ducky had said, everyone had some good in them.

Harper glanced back over to her brother and said a pretty random thing, but then not really, "I hope...mom's not too worried with us being lost out here".

Petrie gave a small smile, his siblings could be annoying and hard to understand, and Harper was no exception even if she hadn't yelled too bad during the Day of the Flyers and stuff and mainly kept her thoughts to herself, just giving him 'a look', but she was still his sister and feeling very unsure being out here on their own, Petrie realized.

"No worry, Harper" Petrie said, putting a wing around his sister, "we good. We gots Uncle Pterano and even Devon and...everyone else to watch us" he gave a small smile before frowning, "Me know you rather be lost with others you know better than with Petrie, but me helped friends in Mysterious Beyond all the time and so me help you, me promise, you sister..." Petrie glanced down after saying all this.

Harper just stared at him, it was quite possibly the sweetest thing she'd ever heard Petrie say to her and she gave a small smile, "I don't know Petrie, the others kinda argue a lot" she said. She let this sentence sink in before laughing and...well, if she'd hugged Petrie it wouldn't have meant as much, instead she playfully pushed him down and Petrie laughed, throwing some dirt from the floor of the cave over at her. "Hey quite it" Harper laughed. She then helped Petrie back up to his feet and gave another smile, "Thanks".

"There, there." Rinkus said, patting Jared on the back. "I know... it's... joyous." he said, sniffling now himself as he too started to break down. Everyone seemed to be in an emotional state, and Rinkus too started crying, though more softly than the others could probably hear. He cried right in Jared's ear though, sniffling all the why as he hugged him tightly up against him.

"Good to finally have a son, if I do say so myself."

Jared's voice came back. "Ohhh

! I'm so happy you're my new dad!" said Jared, still wrapped up warmly in Rinkus's wings. "I promise i'll be a great son for you! I'm so happy! We're gonna have so much fun together! I know you'll be a great father for me just like..."
".
**Then, Jared turned his head and looked at Devon, who was all smiles, all wrapped up in Pterano's wings getting hugged.**

well, just like Pterano is a perfect father for Devon! Awwwhh..thanks for adopting me, dad!"

Said Jared, with his head nestled against Rinkus's warm, pink belly listening to his heartbeat....*thump....thump....thump....*

Fury wasn't as caught up in Pteranos story as everyone else, however when he heard Jared ask to be adopted by Rinkus. He felt a few tears of his own slid down his face, but he then turned away from the group and stood at the edge of the cave.

His head was beginning to hurt... alot. He began to see images from his past flash across his eyes. He quickly shook his head to clear the thoughts, but the more he tried to forget, the stronger Fury's memories became. He shut his eyes tightly and began to shed tears out of anger and sorrow.

As Fury's eyes stayed closed, he could see a island in the big water, it was on fire, smoke billowing into the air and creating a swirling cloud that reflected the red glow of the fire. He could suddenly hear countless screams of terror and fear. He could hear his friends crying for help and could smell the burning of both plants and other dinosaurs.

His heart began to race, and his breathing became shallow as he could see another glider, not just any glider, but his own mother... trying to carry Fury across the big water. He could see the flying fire rocks falling from the sky. The biggest one he could see as clear as the water below him crashed into the island, his home and made the fire spread across and on top of the water as if it was grass.

One final memory pushed its way to the top of Fury's mind. As his home and the water below him burned with fire, he saw one more flying rock slam into his mothers back. His eyes shot open in a moment of shock and utter sorrow. Despite his eyes now being open Fury could still see that single moment of pure pain and anguish on his mothers face. He watched as she too caught fire and dropped him from her protective grasp and shuddered as he remembered falling into the fire covered big water.

At that moment Fury shut his eyes, still letting the tears falling freely from his face and gave out a ear piercing and horrible cry of anger, sorrow, and pain. He screamed to the heavens and held the scream for several long, and painful moments until his voice gave out and he began to cough from a lack of air.

Devon smiled when Jared said that Pterano was the perfect father for him. He agreed completely. The best father in the world... he thought to himself as he nestled closer to the red flyer, blushing happily again.

Artie couldn't help but smile to herself as she watched the loving father son moment between Rinkus and Jared. They look so cute together... she thought to herself as then turned her head and noticed Fury standing on the edge.

She strolled up to him and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Are you okay?" She asked in the softest voice.

Redback watched the whole scene with a mix of awe and confusion. So many emotions running so quickly, he could barely keep ontop of who was adopting who, or generally what was going on.

As he listened to all the little flyers talking about parenthood, his mind strayed back years and years, to when he had last seen his parents.
These leaf-eaters wouldn't understand, his inner voice said. Sharptooth families are very different to flatteeth. His last few seasons with his parents had been rough ones. Any family with two grown sharpteeth was bound to be a tense household, and his was no exception.
He ran a hand over a his chest, and ran it down to his stomach, resting over a set of scratches, that had scabbed and clotted into black scars. He flinched slightly, as he touched them, sending a small jolt of pain through his body

Some goodbye present, dad.

Tero, meanwhile, simply remained standing on the ledge, now once again only accompanied by Luke. watched Zin down below, who had dropped off for a nap, unceremoniously flopping down onto the ground, resting his immense claws on his head. He felt Luke's eyes on him, scanning him, examining him. He simply shrugged and pulled his wings even tighter around him.
Listening to the passionate conversations inside the cave, his face suddenly changed from his usual entropic stare to a look of unbridled hate. His green eyes narrowed, his beak curled into a tight snarl and his long, slender fingers curled into fists.

Watching the group of flyers hugging each other, Luke couldn't help but feel uncomfortable. Since he'd never known his father, and his mother had vanished while he was still very young, he didn't know how to act in situations like these. He couldn't undertand why it seemed so important for them to have parents in their lives.

Gritting his teeth, Luke turned to Tero. "Hey, you're not gonna go all soft on me are you..." he started, then paused. If Tero looked unsettling at the best of times, then the expression on his face now was terrifying. "You know what? I'll shut up. Looks like you have other stuff on your mind." He kept an eye on Tero uneasily.

Pterano just held his son close as he stroked his head comfortingly. He smiled as he felt the boy snuggle closer to him as he tightened his arms. He's so beautiful...My son...I'm so proud of him! the red flyer thought to himself.

Sometimes he pondered over how he and Devon had come together in such a strong bond. It seemed like only yesterday that he and Devon met in the Mysterious Beyond. Devon was such an innocent flyer...he didn't deserve to get eaten by that sharptooth. If Pterano wasn't there to save the day, Devon woulda been...

He shivered just thinking about it. He didn't want to lose his son. He wouldn't be able to cope with the world if he did. This is why he swore on his life to protect him, protect him at no matter what cost. If it meant his life would end by doing so, then so be it. Pterano didn't care. He just wanted his son safe. He tightened his arms around the boy, pulling him closer to his chest, resting his beak protectively over his head.

They stayed that way for a little while before Devon finally pulled back, staring up at the old flyer in admiration. "Dad?"

"Hmm?"

"Can I talk to you in private?" the blue flyer asked with pleading eyes.

Pterano couldn't help but smile at just how innocent Devon looked, like a hatchling. "Of course," he replied in the softest voice.

The flyer became more and more tensed up, as he listened to the conversations of the other flyers. His snarling teeth began to grate, his knuckles whitened as he clenched his fists, and suddenly, he did something he had not done in a very long time.

From his beak, there came a tiny, almost inaudible whimper. Like the noise a mute makes when they absolutely need to make themself heard.

With that, he collapsed to the ground, curling his legs to his chest, his body shaking, as if with silent weeping. It was a pathetic sight, his face returning to its cold, emotionless state, but his body displaying all the symptoms of one wracked with sadness.

Some of these, well, not strangers so much anymore, but lesser known flyers and sharpteeth's mumbled and grunting responses caught Petrie and Harper's attention, Fury's scream and now Tero's...cry being among the chief to do so. The little hatchlings glanced at eachother, not sure what to do about it. The only one Harper felt comfortable even trying to talk to was Fury, being a kid like them, and Miss Artie seemed to have comforting him in wing.

It was odd but of the two of them, both Petrie and Harper would have told you the other was more bold. Petrie for the fact that almost everything scared him, though to different degrees and different times. Harper, being so unused to going anywhere would have told you that it was Petrie who left the Great Valley all the time who could handle things. Sure, she knew as well as anyone how scared he got, but between the two of them he was probably the most use to stuff.

Yet as Tero huddled in, movement did come from one of the little hatchlings. Harper flapped down closer, but still not all the way to the ground, where Tero was. "Um...Sir, you ok?" she asked. At the top of the ledge, Petrie tensed ready to bolt both him and her out of the way if the silent flyer "snapped" or anything.

Jared turned his head to Harper, still wrapped in Rinkus's warm pink wings... He wondered...was this tender moment too strong for Fury and Ptero to take?

"Oh no! Ptero, Fury, are you guys ok? I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings. I didn't mean to."

"It's just that....I can't help myself in tender, touching moments like this. I haven't had a father for so long...but now I have one again."

"Rinkus has been so nice, fun, kind and caring to me. He watches out for me, and.. I love him so much. He'll be a great dad for me. I just know he will! "

Then he looked at Devon....."Devon, can you help me out here? You went through the same thing i'm going through right now when Pterano adopted you. I just hope I didn't hurt Ptero and Fury's feelings too much.

." he said to the blue cearadactylus.

Devon was about to take off along with Pterano but when Jared called for help, he rushed to Jared's side along with Pterano. Neither of them knew what to say, but they felt bad for Fury and Ptero and wished they could do anything to help.

Luke frowned as he bent over Tero. "Uh... are you you ok?" Extending his finger, he prodded the prone, trembling flyer with the sharp end of his claw. "Does this happen a lot, Redback?" he asked over his shoulder unsurely.

Redback ran to the ledge where his friend had collapsed. "No, I've never seen him like this before! Tero, what's up mate?"

He stopped a few feet from him, knowing all too well how dangerous a wounded animal can be. He prodded him with a foot "C'mon mate... Get up, what's wrong with you?"

He looked helplesly to the other flyers "I dunno what's happened... He's done strange things before, but never something like this. And that's the first time he's made any sort of noise for years!"

Tero stayed, curled up, on the ground. As he heard Harper's voice, he turned to face the little flyer. His eyes met hers for a moment, and he stared into her eyes for a few seconds. Was it a trick of the light, or for a brief moment, did he smile?

Redback ventured forwards more, crouching down by Tero and shaking him gently "C'mon ya wierdo, get up!"

Tero sat up and looked up into the face of the sailbacked sharptooth. Grabbing a scruff of Redback's skin, he pulled himself up on his feet and walked past all the flyers assembled around him, making eye-contact with none. He clambered up the side of the mountain and perched, alone, on a small outcrop higher up, looking for all the world like some age-old rock formation.

Redback watched as his friend clambered silently to the perch. Shaking his head "That Tero, what an oddball. He's been odd ever since that encounter with the fast-biter. But he's never broken down like that!...Maybe someone should go talk to him later. I'm no good at all that sort of thing, and he probably won't talk back, but maybe if he just hears a kind voice talking to him, he'll feel a bit better..."

Rinkus patted Jared on the back. "Oh I'm sure it's OK. You deserve this my friend. You haven't had parents in so long after all. Just enjoy this moment. You're such a lost little thing." he squeezed Jared, hugging him close. "You'll be fine... and so will Tero... eventually." the pink long tailed flyer stated.

A sudden flapping from the entrance drew Rinkus's attention over to the mouth of the cave. It was Sierra. He had landed, but stood a good distance away from Pterano, Devon, and everyone else. He didn't seem to look at anyone in particular, just swept his eyes all about.
