hmm...

well...

how would ya'll like me to do it?

3D? (example work)

or 2D? (example work)

I was going to wait on this subject and not reveal much of my plans.. Action did already tell me about the failed project weeks ago and I've steadily offered my experties and tackle the project single handedly

the screenshots above are just a pinch of my work, not even my greatest achievements. just simple samples of test code projects and a small sample of my graphics skills

so.. what will it be?

Not bad. If these are only minor samples, then I can't to see what you'll come up with. :yes

Art isn't the only issue.  One would certainly need to know a considerable amount of java programming to create a decent multimedia LBT game.  Unless they did that using java.  I'm going to go up to the college next year and take classes on java programming.  I'll be able to help a lot in a couple of years.

Embedding into a webpage is javascript.  I'm talking about java programming.  It's totally different.  Javascript is super easy, whereas java programming is a lot harder and more useful.

I know enough Java that I could assist in making a Java LBT game.  I could release a sample Java 2d movement engine (complete with graphics and maps generated by text files and external graphics files) that I wrote earlier this year if anyone is interested.

Still though, I do Not approve of Java as being the primary language for our major LBT game...simply because java is run entirely in virtualization.  I would rather use a language that operates within the realm of the physical machine/operating system rather than rely on a virtual machine to run our game completely separate from the rest of the computer.  that is the one thing I never liked about Java - virtualization.  yes, it makes it able to be compatible with everything, but I find it rather clunky in its own way...I'm just not a fan of virtualization in general...I can only imagine how difficult 3D java games would be to program...2d isn't too bad but 3d may be painful

I've heard that java and visual basic were the two primary languages programmers use to create games.  I know a little visual basic, enough to create an indexing database and a web browser similar to IE but I don't know enough to be of much use in this section.  In college, I plan to learn Java, C++, Visual Basic, and C.  That'll come in handy.  I'm getting pretty good at java script right now, which might be useful sometime.

Seems some have decided to use Javascript, but have you folks decided if you want to go 2d or 3d?

Well, if you go 2D, you can keep closer to the art style. If you go 3D, the game can be more immersive, but harder to make. I say 2D.

Up to the folks going to make it, of course. But they can try for a small game, or demo in 2d.  Do the first 1 or several in 2d to get the feel of things so to speak.  Then maybe try a small section or demo in 3d.  Then decide which they decide is best.

Look at what they did to poor Petrie.

Look at the site logo in the link. "Super Budget Publisher" says it all.

In reality, though, I, too, don't think it's an LBT rip-off, just because it happens to include dinosaurs. Just because it has dinosaurs in it doesn't automatically make it an LBT clone.

pardon this if it's deemed "ungood words":

oh.... my god... what the hell?

(god is lowercase because it refers not to a specific god)

That¥s what I always thought about. It¥s a story like the one of LBT. But in the game you can read that he found his home destroyed and that was nowhere in the movie.

From what I've heard so far, the story is about a baby apatosaurus who gets his home destroyed. He then assumedly heads out to find a new one.

There doesn't seem to be any characters except him and his short-lived father. Why are there 4 other characters on the front cover?

Sorry, but that information is not correct.
As for the characters in the movie, you can forget those you see on the cover, they are much better looking (!) than what you get to see in that movie.
I haven't watched that movie since I got it in early 2004. The main character (I think his name was Tio) is impossible to ascribe to any kind of dinosaur species. His parents (both of them appear in the movie and both of them life to see the end of it) remotely resemble Iguanodons, but it really takes a lot of good will to identify them as such.
The other main character of the story is Cree, the Petrie like creature you saw in one of the pictures. There are a couple of other characters, but I don't recall the names.
The story is really very strange and involves a dinosaur building a seismograph and caves with torches hanging on all the walls (though there is no reference where those torches are coming from). Apart from quite a few subplots the main plot is about the main character and some others being separated from their parents after a big volcanic eruption. After a long quest they find back to their parents.
The animation of the movie is truly dreadful.
There were a couple of funny dialogues and a few ideas which were somewhat interesting, but the realization of those ideas was really poor.
