At about 6:30 this evening, I was thinking this: HOLY CRAP!
Here's what happened: I was the only one at the house at the time. I was watching something on TV and decided to grab a quick drink during a commercial break. On my way to the kitchen, I heard sirens, and they were
really close by. I looked out the window towards the front of the house, thinking,
None of those houses are on fire. This house certainly isn't on fire. I then notice the sirens are going further down the street, towards the other side of the house, so I walk to the other side of the house to look out the window towards the back of the house. Just as I entered the dinning room and glanced out the window, what I saw was enough to make me say aloud, "Holy crap!" at least three times.
I saw a huge column of thick black smoke from somewhere not too far away. (I couldn't see what exactly was on fire, some trees blocked my view. My best guess would be a barn, since it's a rural area in that direction from my house.) The column of smoke was almost as wide as my outstretched hand, and was so high that, even with my face against the window, I couldn't see the top of it. I counted at least four fire trucks pass by, and it was at least 20 minutes before the column of smoke started to clear, indicating that the fire was being put out.
Even more incredible, my brother was about 30 miles to the north and the rest of my family was the same distance to the south, and both of them could see the smoke as they were driving back home, so that was quite the fire that happened nearby.
I honest can't get that image of such a huge column of thick black spoke out of my mind. And when I picture it in my mind, I still can't help but think: Holy crap! :!
