I actually enjoyed this episode. The culture in the Wonderbolts is a lot like military culture, which I'm sure was done intentionally. It's a bit rough around the edges, but rooted in camaraderie. One of the 'bolts even offered a hoof of friendship to Dash after her first rough training session, but she was too obsessed with her nickname to accept it.

I don't really see the 'bolts behavior as being that terrible, as Dash's overreaction was based in a childhood experience that they probably didn't know about. While one could argue that they should have seen she was upset and repented, things just don't always work that way. Sometimes you simply have to take a step back and admit that you were the one who was overreacting.

As for the cons, yeah, impersonating her friends was definitely unnecessary. They could have easily expressed her desperation to change her persona in a much less irritating way.

Mid-season hiatus has been confirmed.  It starts in one month, after which, we won't get a new episode until Fall or Winter.  Here's the link I got the info from.

I hate mid-season hiatuses.  Always have.  Always will.  I just don't see the point to them. -_-

Doesn't bother me at all since this season hasn't been that good so far. But it gives me time to do other stuff now.

This episode was disappointing to say the least.  A Rainbow Dash centered episode that wasn't awesome?!  This is a first.  Hopefully they use this hiatus to think of better plots and make higher quality episodes.

Yes I can agree with your post dude. I also agree this seasons episodes have been very awful. They seem so rushed to me and not a lot of effort is put into this season so far. I hope the rest of season Six doesn't stink like the first third has so far. I'm happy to hear they're on a hiatus. They need better writers and a new writing team.

~REVIEW POST~

I will say this was a good episode.  I'll just say they did pretty well with this one.  Get the spoiler version below because I really can't give a decent review without spoiling it.

Note, that this episode is done in mostly song.  It's Hearth's Warming Eve and Starlight wants to skip it this year.  Now, she does have a reason, and it's the old "filled with commercialism" excuse many give with Christmas.  Starlight does know the story of how it all started, but that's not the story Twilight plans to tell her.  It's what many have been expecting to eventually happen.  The My Little Pony Version of "A Christmas Carol".  Yes, the story that's been adapted over and over again.  I seriously cannot tell you how many versions there are and we now have one more to add to that list.  However, this one plans to do it's own thing with the classic story.

Up to this point, they didn't have a character among the Mane Six that was worthy of playing the "Scrooge" role, which is probably why they didn't do it until now.  Evil version of Starlight fits the role nicely.  So good job on you, writers.  Oh, and Rainbow Dash gets the "Mr. Cratchit" role.

In this version, Scrooge Pony (Barely remembering names here.  Deal with it!), after sending Mr. Cratchit Pony home, hates Hearth's Warming Eve so much that she plans to erase it from history.  In fact, she doesn't believe the story of how it started one bit. (This will be important later.) She's about to complete the spell when The Ghost of Hearth's Warming Past appears, played by Applejack.  She says that them appearing is a safeguard of sorts.  Now let's get to this Scrooge's past.

So Scrooge Pony's past in this version is that she had a bad influence teacher that made her think the way she does.  Hmm... why do I feel this is a better version of "Starlight's Past"?  Oh yeah!  Because it is!  Seriously, the writers are never getting off easy with Starlight's backstory.  Sure, they make fun of it here, but a bad backstory is still a bad backstory.

That's all there is to it and we move on from there. (One of the tragedies of adapting the classic story into 15 minutes.  Everything needs to be rushed.) The Ghost of Hearth's Warming Present appears, played by Pinkie Pie.  Here, they have Scrooge Pony go to the party that Mr. Cratchit Pony is attending.  Yep!  They are doing their own thing here.  Two more of the Mane Six pop in for the party.  Them being Rarity and Fluttershy.  Unsure what roles they are supposed to play, but they're here.  After bantering about Scrooge Pony to the point where it hits her heart, we move on to the future spirit.

Now, if it looks like I'm glossing over everything, it's because I am and that's the episode's own fault.  There's little to tell, but it's the context of how it's done that matters here.  The summary is simplistic, but done very well.  Keep that in mind.

Anyways, The Ghost of Hearth's Warming Future comes forth.  She is played by Luna. (Bet you didn't see that one coming.) She shows the future of Scrooge Pony succeeding with her spell and the consequences of that.  The Windigos roam free!  Trapping Equestria in an eternal winter.  Scrooge Pony thought the origin story was a myth, but Future Pony tells her it's quite real. (Told you it would be important.) Seeing the consequences of what her future spell would do, Scrooge Pony apologizes and begs to be brought back to before casting the spell.  She is granted that wish.  She never completes the spell.

The story ends with Scrooge Pony heading to the party and giving Mr. Cratchit Pony a gift.  It's Dragon Toenail, which she absolutely loves.

The story at hand convinces Starlight to give Hearth's Warming Eve a shot and she celebrates it with Twilight and friends.

This was a good episode and you have to see it.

I'll provide the links to the episodes with my next post.

See ya later! :wave

I just finished the episode. And my thoughts are it was actually pretty good. We finally got a good episode this time around. I loved how it was a mix between Dr. Seuss How The Grinch Stole Christmas and Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol rolled into one. The songs where like always very good in this episode. They actually put effort into this episode. Let's hope the other episodes will be like this one. I really enjoyed this episode a lot. If this is the last episode than they left it on a good note.

(spoilers)
I knew before I even saw this episode that it was going to be a version of A Christmas Carol, and considering that the holiday in question here would be Hearth's Warming instead of Christmas, I also knew that there would be some differences in the details.

I think the name of Starlight's character in the story was "Snowfall Frost", and I find it interesting that, like Starlight, she had intended to do something selfish without realizing just how terrible the consequences really were until she saw it all for herself, after which she decided to change her ways for the better. And amusing to me is that she was even given the same hairstyle as Starlight used to have as a subtle way of showing that she's not a nice pony (until the end).

I also liked how all the characters in the story were dressed up to reflect the 19th Century setting that you typically expect from this kind of story, both the main characters and the background characters.

Also, just before the second commercial break, Spike asked to take a break from the story to get a refill of hot cocoa. I think that might be the only moment in the entire series so far where something even close to a fourth wall break regarding commercials was made.

Overall, it was definitely another good holiday episode.

Turns out a certain someone was supposed to be in the episode as well, but due to time restraints, that had to be changed.  Here's a part of the missing scene.

Spoiler Link

Really wish that character made it in. :)

It would have been cool to have him in, even if just for 1 scene.

I was wondering why they didn't include Jacob Marley. Makes sense now.

The episode itself was alright. Song heavy but one of the better episodes of this season. I just find it strange that they'd do a Christmas special in the end of Spring/beginning of Summer. I did love how it was a retelling of A Christmas Carol but with ponies (although I am disappointed they didn't have Pipsqueak be Tiny Tim).

At least they added everything else so I was okay about leaving out Jacob Marley.
