So my boyfriend heard the solution and told me he considers it an unfair answer. Admittedly, he follows very rigid hangman rules way beyond our mostly-casual play (he wouldn't allow spaces or proper nouns ala shaiger's Kuiper Belt, for example), but I figured I'll give additional clarification. The answer is a connected adjective and noun, and the answer works in the context of either mythology or entomology. The adjective and noun are not mandatorily connected, but they could together describe a hypothetical subject from either interpretation. It is not a proper noun.

I apologize if I made this one too hard, and if we want to just scrap it I'd happily give the floor back to shaiger to supply another puzzle.

Yup! In entomology, "pygmies" are species far smaller than their usual counterparts, and 'nymphs' are an immature form of any species that doesn't change significantly as it grows. Pygmy nymph grasshoppers and dragonflies in particular were very common when I worked as an assistant at a nature preserve in Texas.

I think that's a new record for guessing the answer with the fewest available letters. Your turn Chronicler!

Wow, that sure was quite a sneaky one. Anyway, while most of you seem okay with identifying categories, I prefer to keep the category of my puzzles a mystery to make things more interesting (the only hint you'll ever get out of me is that I'll never repeat the same category from more recent puzzles, as I feel that would make them a little too easy to solve).
