New meteor shower
on:
May 23, 2014, 12:58:33 PM
A cosmic debris field from Comet 209P/LINEAR will intersect the Earth for the first time this year, resulting in a meteor shower that may be rather significant. The new shower, called the Camelopardalids, will be on full display from 2 am to 4 am Eastern Time on May 24 (7 am to 9 am GMT) where as many as 200 to 1000 meteors per hour could be visible.
A news report on this can be found here:

NASA's press release on the topic can be found here:

Thanks for the links, though converting gmt to my time is gibberish.

Clouds are starting to move in. Looks like no meteor shower for me.
Maybe I'll be able to catch some between the cloud cover, if the shower is as active as they are predicting.

^ I am sorry to hear that, Justin. I was in a similar situation during the last full lunar eclipse. The clouds moved in immediately prior to the moon falling into the Earth's shadow. Hopefully you will be able to catch a few glimpses of the meteor shower between the cloud cover.

Looks like total cloud cover here. At least I did see a meteor shower once, when I was teenager.

Was anybody lucky enough to catch a meteor on photo? They couldn't be seen here in Europe.

Even though I was up late enough to see it, I didn't even bother to check outside. If I could hear rain outside, then chances were that it was too cloudy to see anything.

I was only able to see 3 meteors after about 30 minutes of watching. Apparently
many others
also found the meteor shower to be a disappointment.
