The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

The last surviving American veteran of World War One, Frank Buckles, has recently passed away at the age of 110. The fact that he has lived for so long shows that he had lied about his age when he had enlisted back in 1917. He has spent the last years of his life campaigning for a World War One memorial. With his death, there are now only two WWI veterans throughout the whole world who are still alive today, both of them are from Britain (one has long since moved to Australia).

You can say that again, Nick. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone living to be 110!

the record for oldest person is 122, a woman named Jeanne Calment who died in 1997, and was the last living person to have met Vincent van Gogh, she met him in 1889 when she was a 14 year old girl.

110 is a very long time indeed.  Imagine living that long.

You know, I started this topic to get people to talk about the fact that virtually all of the WWI veterans are now gone, not that this guy lived to be 110.
To get back on topic, here's another article I found relating to this:

And today World War I ceased to be contemporary history. Claude Stanley, the last remaining veteran of WWI, who lied about his age to be admitted into the Royal Navy, died at age 110. What I said before is actually not quite true for some civilians remain who as kids saw WWI, but soon nobody is left who remembers it from own experience.
