The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Who am I?

This is a Greek myth. I know it, But I just can't think of the name. Jason perhaps?

It's a Greek myth indeed, but it's not Jason we are talking about. A very famous melody was written inspired by this myth. Oh and by the way, the character we are talking about did have a "guest appearance" in the saga of Jason, singing a dragon into sleep. Please don't forget to name both, this character and his wife.

Orpheus and Eurydice. Orpheues was extremely gifted with the lyre, and when his wife died he went to the Ubnderworld and played his lyre for Hades and Persephone. They were so touched that they allowed him to take Eurydice back to Earth, with the condition that he not look back at her until they had reached Earth. As you know, he disobeyed thier command, and she was lost to him forever.

Perfectly right!
As soon as you will have thought of one you can come up with the next person riddle.

I lived a while back and people feared of what I knew. I kept it quiet and I saw things in the deepest of future seeing things that happened in his eyes or dream.

Yamashita Tomoyuke? A Japanese general who wanted to hid that treasure from the Americans when they reconquered the Philipines in 1944?

Yep. According to legend, he hid 44000 tons of gold in the phillipines. Today that treasure would be worth close to $2 trillion.

Nice. It would be a nice little addition to my pocket money if I ever find it  ;)

They nicknamed me "Old Fuss and Feathers" and I developed the "Anaconda Plan". Who am I?

General Hancock, called "old Fuss and Feathers' for the way he dressed. He would always wear a feather in his hat, and he would take hours getting into his uniform.

Was he named "Old Fuss and Feathers" too? I didn't know that. I'm not thinking of Hancock actually, but one good hint: Give me Hancocks first and second name and cut out the "Hancock" and you'll get the man I'm talking of (perhaps Hancock was even named after this man I'm thinking of).

Right. Winfield Scott was the leader of the American campaign to Mexico City in 1847/48. He also developed the so called Anaconda plan on which the federal strategy during the civil war was based. With Scott being famous already for his actions in the war of 1812 and Hancock being born in 1824 I consider it very likely that Hancock was actually named after Scott.
Your turn Nick.

$7.2 million in gold, but I'm afraid you confused this quiz with the US history quiz because of my last question. It's the who am I? game, so we have to come up with riddle talk or descriptions of a person in history.
Still your turn Nick.
