"Mythbusters Cannonball Experiment Gone Wrong"
Has anyone else heard about this? Apparently on Tuesday the MythBusters had an accident with a cannon they were firing, where the cannonball literally escaped the bomb range where they were testing, and turned pinball in the neighboring town of Dublin.
Apparently Grant, Kari, and Tory were testing the effectiveness of cannonballs made from different materials, firing them at water-filled barrels to gauge ballistic properties such as speed and destructiveness. However, on the third test of the day, the cast iron cannonball they were firing went over the row of barrels, tore through the cinderblock wall behind them, and deflected off the hill beyond, sending it 650 yards into the nearby town. It smashed through the front door of a house, ricocheted around the interior and eventually through the opposite outside wall, bounced across a road and off the roof of
another house, finally coming to rest after crashing through the window of a parked minivan.
The good news is that no one was hurt in the accident. (The owners of the first house actually slept through the whole thing, only waking up when the smashed sheetrock started raining down.) I'm immediately reminded of the MythBusters' anecdote from the top 12 locations special about the shock wave from one of their explosions wreaking minor havoc in the town of Esparto, and the time one of their cars jumped a berm in the Demolition Derby Special. This is definitely the most serious mishap they've had so far, however. Let's all hope that nothing like this happens to MythBusters again.
