Wayne was confused, but straightened up and tried to put a nonchalant look on his face. "What would you like, sir?"
O'Neill stopped, his feet precariously close to Shelton's face. "Caesar salad. No croutons. Extra carrots."
"Right away!" Wayne got to work, accidentally dropping the salad ladle. It clattered right next to Shelton's ear, who almost kicked O'Neill in the shin from fright.
"Sorry!" Ignoring Shelton's scandalized expression, Wayne grabbed it and quickly finished the salad. "Have a nice day, sir!" He smiled, passing the salad over shakily.
O'Neill took his salad and silently walked to an empty table, far away.
Once O'Neill was safely away, Shelton exhaled, and started to crawl out of the salad bar. "Thanks," he said. "Tinnitis aside, I owe you one."
Wayne helped him to his feet. "Rudy, what are you doing here? You're supposed to be in Austria!"
"Long story," said Shelton. "I can't go into detail right now, but you can't tell anybody about this. How did you even recognize me?"
"You're on our card."
Shelton stopped. "What card?"
Wayne took of his right shoe and pressed a circular piece of tread on the sole. A secret slot slid out, and he showed Shelton a business card. Pictures of James, Shelton, Werner, and Dr. Joe were at each corner.
"Wayne Anthony, ADSA organizer" Shelton read. "What's ADSA?"
Wayne lowered his voice. "The Anti-Dragonstorm Alliance. Don't think you and your friends were the only ones who protested this project; a bunch of scientists have learned about it, and we've formed our own underground effort to expose Dragonstorm to the public."
"Really? This exists? Since when?"
"Since you were deported for no reason, and your friends fired. Some of us found that suspicious, and they're not exactly hiding the fact that Dragonstorm is back up. Scientists like O'Neil walk the hallways, and Lab 101 is off-limits to all but "classified" personnel. And by classified, I mean everyone who was released from prison and brought back to Pelvanida." Wayne's expression grew dark. "We're fighting back. And you could be a great help."
"Well, first of all, take this." Shelton gave Wayne the flash drive. "This has all the data from the Lab 101 network."
Wayne's eyes grew wide. "This is amazing! You don't know how important this is!"
He motioned towards the labs. "I can take you to our HQ. The others will want to meet you."
"Wait, first I should introduce you to my friends. They're here too." Shelton led Wayne over to James and Zachary.
Wayne shook their hands. "Wayne Anthony, assistant to Dr. Kyle. Dr. Zanasiu, Mr. Johnson, this is an honor."
He told them everything he said to Shelton.
