The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Tahlia landed upon the ground, folding her large wings and letting out a small cry.

'What do, mother?' Klebol said, approaching her.

'Klebol, get the ropes off the mule and tie them to the other end. We have something better to pull the cart for us.'

The kobold looked up to see Toby approaching. 'Little red dragon! We have baby dragon to play?'

Tahlia shook her head with a sigh. 'Just get the ropes ready, please.'

'Yes, captain!' Klebol replied with a salute. 'Batten down the hatches! Secure the sails! Feed the parrot! Kleeee!'

As her companion did as she had asked, she looked upon the cart... and the contents hidden within.

'It is too late,' she said with sadness in her once beautiful voice. Indeed, she knew it was too late, and there was no doubt in her mind that the enemy would know this too. 'I have failed you, Poet. Still, we might as well finish what we have started.'

She would deliver the astral beacon, as she had promised.

Within the streets of the Dracon city, a phantom was looming around in search of someone in particular, blowing open each door it came across, but yet, founding nothing.  It floated just above the ground as it was slowly approaching Rex's house "Come out, come out, wherever you are" it spoke in a rather ghastly sounding voice.

Violet's ears twitched as she heard the blast of the doors in the distance "What the? What is that?" she asked everyone else.

Kayla sounded rather quiet as she muttered something underneath her breath "I just hope that it's not my father...." she said with a slight sigh.

The phantom approached the house and looked within a window as it saw who it was after "I found you...."

Kayla glanced to the window and saw the phantom, letting off a bit of a scream as she watched the phantom move away from the window, towards where the door was.

The phantom in question wore a cloak much like the grim reaper out, it's face covered, all of its face that could be seen would be darkness, as well as glowing red eyes.

Rex's mother looked out of the window. In addition to hearing the din of battle, she saw...

"A phantom! Kids, get away from the windows! Stay down!" she yelled, while leaping to take cover herself. It was almost a comical sight in that a large number of badly dressed dracons, a human and a lycan who looked like they were going swimming all dove for cover.

Selturma thought about the situation ever so briefly.

"Oh gods, I could die. I could die real soon. Oh gods. Oh no. If I die, I'll be almost naked when I'm dead. OhgodsIhopeRexisokay. And I landed on my chest when I jumped. Ow."

The dracons had their claws and fangs, as well as some weak acid breath. The sons inside the house were getting strong, but unarmed and unarmored, and still too young to really put up a good fight, even they would fall. The daughters and mother were in even more dire peril.

The phantom let off a rather ghastly chuckle as it approached the door and before they knew it, the door shook once, then a second time, and then a third time before it was blown off its hinges.

Kayla looked to everyone else, then over at the phantom with a small gulp as she wanted to say something to the creature, but could not get up the courage to say so.

The phantom slowly approached the group "Now, where might I find the daughter of Velrius?"

Kayla looked down before taking a deep breath as she got up "That....would be me.....please, don't hurt them"

Violet looked to Kayla and shook her head "No! You can't give in like this!" she more or less yelled at Kayla as she got up as well.

The phantom chuckled another ghastly chuckle again as it bought up a hand, it seemed to be a skeleton-like hand as it approached both Violet and Kayla.

Violet stepped forward "Leave her alone" she spoke, doing what she could to sound confident.

"I'm afraid I can not do that, Velrius wishes for her, and he shall get his wish" the phantom replied back as it placed a boney finger underneath Violet's chin before it pushed her aside more or less as it approached Kayla, who in turn, was slowly stepping backwards.

Violet fell to the ground after the push of the phantom as she turned to Selturma and the others "It wants her....what....can we do about it?" she decided to ask her.

Selturma got up her courage... and her mouth.

Leaping to the top of a couch wearing nothing but a small piece of rope with two pieces of cloth on either end, she screamed at the phantom as she dug her claws into the nice fabric. It was an odd situation.

"LeaveKaylaalonesheneverdidanythingtoyouIhateyousomuchgetoutofherenow!"

With that, Selturma used her martial arts prowess to leap into the air, spinning as she jumped, and executed a blow to the phantom's head using her tail and a second blow using her right foot on its upper chest. She landed on her feet and did a backflip to get out of the range of possible retaliation, not sure if she had affected it or not.

The phantom was struck by by Selturma's attacks as it was knocked back a bit in the process.

Violet noticed that the attacks seemed to have some sort of affect on the phantom as she let off a light growl as she charged forward on all fours, leaping at the phantom herself and slammed her hind legs into the chest of the phantom.

The phantom stagged back slightly from the attack from Violet as well as it looked at Selturma and Violet with it's cold, errie eyes before looking back to Kayla "Velrius will have you"

"No! I will not go back to my father!" Kayla more or less yelled back as she charged forwards at the phantom and actually tackled it outside before leaping off it and onto the ground "I may not have my weapons, but I'm not going with you that easily"

The phantom moved its hand to its side as a scythe appeared in its skeleton hand before aiming its scythe at her.

Kayla could only gulp at that point "Okay....um...." was all she could say in a nervous little laugh, giving off a rather light little smile too.

The phantom started to approach Kayla once again "Enough games, you shall come with me, dead, or alive" however, it stopped slightly as a voice rang in its head.

"No! I require her alive!" the voice rang.

"Very well then, alive it shall be...." the phantom spoke as it swung the scythe at her, sending a wave of darkness at Kayla, knocking her backwards into the house once more.

Kayla looked to the others again "I don't think it's going to stop until I go with it" was all she said, as if she was actually considering going with the phantom.

"Wait.....what do you mean? No! You can't go!" Violet told Kayla back.

Rex's mother decided to intervene. She was no combatant, but she knew a thing or two about war from her husband, including military ranks, how to apply a tourniquet, and... how to mix nitric acid and glycerin to form a powerful explosive, some of which she kept prepared in case of an emergency like this.

She ran up to her room, reached under the bed as her husband had told her to do in case of an emergency, took out the potion, ran down the stairs, and...

"Hey you! Phantom! Get OUT of this house!!" and with that, she threw the bottle at the phantom, causing an explosion which knocked it down and made it release its hold on Kayla, but by no means killed it, if such a being was living to begin with.

The phantom had managed to grab Kayla and was starting to leave with her, only to be struck by an explosion, which in turn, caused it to let go of her as it was blasted backwards some more.

Kayla fell to the ground before she got back up and dusted herself off "Um, thanks" she told Rex's mother as Violet ran over to her.

"Are you okay?" Violet asked her.

Kayla nodded "Yeah, I'm fine" she told the lycan back as she saw the phantom slowly rising back up again, turning to face Kayla again, pointing a finger at Kayla.

Violet looked to Kayla again "Um, anyone else have a better plan?" she asked anyone in particular.

The phantom slowly started to approach them again as Violet looked between the phantom and Kayla before she charged forwards "Leave us alone!" she growled as she tackled the phantom into another house, only to be thrown off.

The phantom, again, was about to head off after Kayla again, only for Violet to yell at it "Hey! Ugly! Over here!" she called out as the phantom stopped and turned to face the lycan, it was now focused on her as Violet was now just growling at it by that point.

"Violet...." Kayla muttered to herself as she looked over to the phantom and Violet now at a stand-off.

Adykon and the wall guards fought a desperate defense against the second enemy army. So far, they had kept the foes back, and had even been able to wreck one of the siege towers. But now, with several more siege towers and scaling ladders incoming, they were hard-pressed to hold them off.

"Where's Toby?" Adykon thought to himself, wondering what was so important about that bird that the little dragon would just abandon the fight for it.

Toby, for his part, did has Tahlia instructed, and soon the cart was moving. From this point, it would be up to the earth phoenix to get anything done.

Rhiga and Marcus were still in their house, trying to stay alive on the first day after they were married, while Vespion was wounded but hanging in there. Lucien and Margas were in the middle of the fight. They fought hard, but it was becoming harder and harder to keep so much as one step ahead of the enemy in combat.

"Blast it! Why do these things have to be so TOUGH?!" Lucien cursed mentally. His shiny armor was battered and dented, and blood belonging to himself and the enemy stained both his helmet and his gauntlets. Even with the fanciest armor and best equipment available, the young noble was in trouble.

Another noble was also in trouble... financial trouble. Yes, even during the battle, Tallon worried about his costs and income. He was still fantastically rich, even with the loss of some income from disrupted commerce and damage to his businesses in the city. For now, he brooded on these thoughts while hiding underneath his palace in a magically-shielded safe room.

As for those with real causes to worry about...

"Ahhgh! Vespion!" I need some healing here!

"Bzzzzumm" The sound of a spell of 'cure wounds' went off, healing the nasty gash on Adykon's arm.

"*Gasp* There you go, Adykon, but you've gotta make it last. That was the very last bit of healing magic I've got."

"Can you still fight?"

"Yeah, but I'm running out of combat magic too. I've used up the last of the mana potions we had on this side of the wall, and I don't think there are any more coming soon."

If something was going to change the tide for them on this wall, it had better happen soon.

Well, they're starting to gain the edge by sherr arrition.. the girls od rapidly rubning out of magic.. minna is just about done, Ilsa isn't too far behind' Margas grumbled a casting another spell at a nearby enemy He had started to use lightning as an attack, through it cost him a bit more inn energy it was a more potent spell.  But no matter what he tried, the enemy hordes kept coming.. "This keeps up we won't have any strength left to resist the final surge he muttered. two were two armies just watch the fight on the east and west sides of the city..

Ku'ux seemed to snort a little bit "This is not going so well, the enemy isn't going to stop anytime soon by the looks of things" he told Adykon as he watched on still, kicking off another ladder that was pressed upon the wall.

However, that's when he heard a rather faint scream, glancing around and saw in the middle of the city more or less, a phantom, and what seemed to be Violet at a stand-off "That can't be good either" he uttered with a shake of his head, turning his attention back to the field of battle again.

Eternion spat blood on the ground. 'I swear, the longer this goes on, the grittier things get. A few minutes ago, I was fine... and now I seem to be bleeding in odd spots, my clothing is torn, and by gods... my axe is covered in the blood of my enemies. It's... just like that time Almia and myself held off an entire tribe of orcs upon a hill.'

He looked over to Adykon, pretty much the only dracon he seemed to be able to identify with on this field of battle. 'We got married up there, you know. We had a priest with us, he was half bard on his mothers side... wanted to get out of the house more,' he said with a chuckle, as well as dodging another arrow. 'Got more than he bargained for, and not to mentionhe married off a pair of insane dracons, go figure. Still remember the poor guys name, too. Poet Silvar... sounds more elvish than human, to be honest, but who am I to be going around saying what's right and wrong with a name?'

He sometimes did indeed wonder why his parents had given him such an odd name. Had they foreseen his future or something?

Tahlia was by no means a pack mule, but she could not resist the urge to help their new found friend in carrying the burden of the cart. 'I'll take this one,' she said as she wrapped a talon around a bound rope. 'With a little bit of effort, we can get the beacon over the wall and somewhere safe. I was to bring it to the king, I believe... though I forget his name. What was it again, Klebol?'

Klebol sat upon the cart, wearing a battered helmet upon his head. 'I am the queen of cartland!'

Tahlia grumbled. 'Nevermind.'

"Take this to the king?!" Toby shouted at Tahlia. "Do you really think they'll let a dracon, a kobold and an earth bird inside the gates of the palace during a siege?!"

Meanwhile, at the walls...

Adykon dismissed the ramblings of Eternion. "We'll deal with it later, okay? I don't know what you're going on about, but you're a good fighter. Let's just hold the chat until we ca-"

ROOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAARRR!!!

"What in the name of the black pit was that?!"

The army on the wall pulled back as soon as the roars reached their ears. For the second time, Minbenthac had held firm in the face of danger. The defenders of the wall were bloodied and beaten, and the dead lay beneath the wounded.

"Hah! That's it! RUN! Go back to your dark master! Tell Dememoras that we're coming for him, and that we're gonna-"

"Give it a break, Lucien" Vespion told the hotheaded noble. "They intended to retreat. It explains the ease of our defense."

"Easy? EASY?! You call that easy?!" Lucien gestured to the dead and wounded, who were strewn about the ramparts. "That was anything but easy, cleric. It was our might, not their plans which gave us victory this day."

"Just keep telling yourself that, Lucien." Vespion replied, lying down. His robes were in tatters, but they were useful as a makeshift pillow when he rolled them up. At least he had on garments underneath them.

"Do you think we would have fallen?" Adykon asked Vespion, whose eyes were now closed, although he was not asleep.

"Yes. I was totally out of magic. I don't think I can continue this fight. One more assault from them and this front would have collapsed."

"I...cannot fault your reasoning on that." Adykon looked around to see the casualties. He had no exact numbers, but it was clear that over half of the troops stationed on the wall were dead or injured... more like 2/3 were no longer fit to fight.

In the distance, three large dragons, a red, green, and blue, all prepared to attack the city. Three of the armies were led by the dragons. A fourth one had the leadership of an agent already inside the city.

'To be honest, I would not be surprised if they had sealed the entire palace with every piece of furniture they could find,' Tahlia replied, grunting a little as she shared the burden of the cart.

'Batter down the doors!' Klebol shouted, rising to his feet... even though he was standing on a cart suspended in the air. 'Use the tables, use the chairs, break the windows, climb the stairs!'

'Please be quiet, dear,' Tahlia said, her head looking down at the kobold.

'Smash the bricks, tear the carpet, break the cupboards, those stupid...'

'Shut up,' Tahlia said firmly. It was enough to silence the wild eyed kobold.

For about five seconds...

Tahlia looked over to Toby, hopeful. 'Perhaps they might recognize you as we get closer, sky king?'

Eternion tasted the air, and listened. He ignored the arguing as if it weren't even happening... such things he did not care for. 'I don't like this one bit, Adykon,' he began, more interested in the matters at hand. 'I haven't seen many sieges in my life, but I know that this sort of thing doesn't just happen. Something big is coming.'

He looked up in the sky, seemingly searching for something that wasn't there. 'We shouldn't be up here, we need to fall back. What ever is coming, it won't bode well for us.'

The phantom approached the young lycan as it wrapped it's skeletal hand around her throat, lifting her up into the air.

"Violet!" Kayla called out as Violet was seen, struggling in the grip of the phantom.

"You wish to die? Then so be it" the phantom told Violet as its grip tightned around the throat Violet still.

"Leave her alone!" Kayla called out as she stepped forward, her fists gripped "If you want me, then take me, but leave everyone else alone!"

The phantom seemed to just toss Violet aside as it turned to face Kayla instead "That is indeed, a wise choice" it spoke as it begun to approach her once more.

Violet was on the ground as she looked over, shaking her head as well "No....don't do it Kayla...." was all she could utter a bit as she got up again.

Meanwhile, Ku'ux glanced back over to the phantom before looking to Adykon Will you be able to hold out? We have a phantom problem" he spoke in regards to the phantom "And it seems to be after that girl as well" he added on, not actually knowing who Kayla was.

All four armies were now lined up to attack the city. The Dragonbloods, the Spellforged, the Runemarked, and the Demonbred were in position. One dragon was in front of each of the first three armies, and the fourth one was to all appearances, the weakest of the four. Looks could be deceiving...

"They're just standing there! I don't GET it!" Lucien was very unhappy with the recent turn of events. "WHY don't they just attack us?"

"The enemies are waiting for a signal" Vespion replied. "It's a common tactic used by mages to tell when to attack. We don't know what the signal is, but they do.  Dememoras is a being of great magical powers, so he probably came to the same conclusion in what tactics to use." The cleric was on his feet again, but was uneasy. His magic was spent. He was battered, exhausted, and wounded in several places.

"Are you sure you are okay, Vespion? You look rather..."

"Beat? I am, Adykon, believe me. I've never been in such dire straits before. I imagine it must be disconcerting to see me without my robes on." He wasn't kidding. Beneath his robes, Vespion had concealed a series of blue tattoos on his chest, each comprised of spirals and curved lines. "I'll spare you the questions and just cut to the quick; I got these when I was an initiate in the temple, and got more of these as time went on. As I grew and rank and power, they gave me another one of these. Eventually... well, you see what they did."

"Indeed. If you can't fight on, I'll let you leave. You've already done far more than I could have expected of you, my friend."

"I'll leave to get a mana potion, a healing elixir, or whatever it is they have left in the city. I'll be back, friends. This isn't the last you'll see of me!" With that, the cleric ran down the stairs on the walls and into the city itself.

Ku'ux shook his head slightly as he took off away from where he was in order to aid Kayla and the others from the phantom.

The phantom continued to approach Kayla until it was struck by an axe before being knocked aside, grabbing his axe back and snorting at the phantom "Foul creature"

The phantom was knocked back as it turned to face the minotaur "Stand aside beast, this is not your battle" it told Ku'ux.

"It just has become my fight, leave them alone" Ku'ux snorted again as he aimed his axe at it.

The phantom looked at the minotaur with a rather cold and erie look "Very well then, if it must be done..." was all it spoke as it begun to approach Ku'ux before it swung it's scythe at him, to which Ku'ux managed to just block the attack in time.

By this time, the phantom was out in the open, having left Rex's house. Rex's mother and siblings were all inside, but Selturma was not. Having quickly grabbed her top and put it on, she ran outside into the streets and found Ku'ux locked in a battle with the phantom.

"Hey you! Ghost! Leave us alone!"

There was no response

"I mean it! Let Kayla go!"

Again, there was nothing. If the phantom had heard her, it gave no indication whatsoever. As is Selturma were not even there. She ran off, looking for someone, ANYONE could help.

Vespion, however, was not far off. He had found a potion in the ruins of a stand wrecked by a stone hurled from an enemy's trebuchet, and drank it to restore his mana. With his magic replenished, the cleric was able to invoke a spell to heal his wounds, and then rush back onto the wall with the others. Unfortunately, fate intervened.

"Vespion?! Is that you."

"Who is- Selturma!"

"I'm glad you remembered me. I barely recognized you without your robes."

"Ehh... enough of that. I have to get to the wall. Adykon will need my magic, and I have to-"

"Kaylasunderattackyougottahelpher!"

"Wha? Okay... slow down. Let's try that again. First, who's Kayla?" he asked.

"She's a new human friend. Sasha and Violet know her too. This phantom came and took her. Ku'ux is fighting them now."

"Great... alright. Just show me where to go, and I'll help him beat this thing!"

Running as fast as her clawed feet could go, Selturma took off in the direction of the phantom, with Vespion close behind. "Hurry! We've gotta get there in time, we just GOTTA!"
