The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Marcus held the summons from Adykon in his claw. they had barely reached Minna's palace before Misro had sent them back with Adykon's summon. He had promised he would send some of the servants over with food.." Come on Rhiga, we must reach the royal palace' He said to his wife.. who was just behind him, as they jostled through the crowds, heading towards the enormous palace which served as the royal headquarters.
Margas and Ilsa were also making their way to the palace.. they had woken after a long night of intense lovemaking. they had sat down to breakfast when they had received the summons from Misro. 'I think that is Marcus ahead of us"Ilsa said, running a little to keep pace with her husband.."It is possible.." came the reply, although in this crowd it can be hard to tell one face from out of the thousands milling about..

Eriol was quietly looking at the conversation between the members of the party that are there at this time, he was paying close attention about the Archmage, after a while he said. - "An attempt to rescue Aerta will be very dangerous if her place is under a siege, so we need a good plan, but I am also thinking about what can happen later." - he paused for a bit as he stopped been leaned against the wall and walked near the people there. - "She is sure to become a very powerful ally, but she may also know of methods, artifacts and maybe other people that could join and help us defeat Dememoras."

"anyway...while Exodar sits here, we'll go back upstairs" said Sasha "he hasn't said anything, because he might be a little confused about the whole situation". Sasha got up off of the couch she was on and she moved over to the stairwell. Sasha turned around and asked "anyone else coming?". "yeah i'm coming" said Jake. "me too" added Rex "you coming Selturma?"

Adykon thought about Eriol's words. "Hmm. It is funny to think that the 'Damsel in Distress' might be the one to save us in the long run, even as she requires saving herself. I only hope she still has the same power as we saw she had last time. I could never have stopped Arcantas without her. She helped me beat him... twice! I would likely be dead if not for her. It is only right that I return the favor and help her out when she needs it."

It was true that the party had required outside aid to survive through two of its adventures, although the largest instance of help was only partial each time; in the end, Adykon himself had to deal the finishing blow to the enemy.

A summons was sent to Minna and Lucien as well, but it was not until after they had finished their lovemaking, that Minna got around to reading it..' Adykon wants to see us..' She murmured to her husband after reading it and tossing it over to him.. she got out of bed slowly and got dressed.. 'Best to go see what he wants.."
As Marcus reached the enterence to the palace , he heard his name being called
' He turned to see Margas and Ilsa coming up to him.." i see you got the summons as well' Marcus said , looking at them with a smile on his face..

"Hold on, Minna! It takes me longer to get dressed! I gotta get my shirt on!" Lucien would also put a holster for his sword, and put on some armor later, after Adykon and the others decided exactly what they were going to do. "You females have it easy! All you need to do it put on something to cover two pieces, and you're good to go!"

It took Lucien a few minutes to get all of his clothes and equipment, but then they were ready to go. A little while later, Minna and Lucien joined Marcus, Rhiga, Ilsa, Margas, Eriol, Farstriker and Adykon in the main hall. Now all that remained was Vespion. Rex, Jake, Sasha, and the other kids were not there at the time, but in Adykon's view, that was okay. As for Violet, Toby, and Ku'ux... they would show up whenever they could.

before long, though Minna and Lucien were headed out toward the royal castle where Adykon sand the others would be waiting for them. Minna was dressed today in a light red top and loincloth, in her left claw was the magical staff the village shaman had created for her,
-
Margas entered the palace and was directed to the throne room, which was easily the most extravagant room he had ever seen.. Margas and Ilsa entered shortly afterwards... " we're here Adykon.. so whats the plan?' Ilsa asked.

Vespion had heard the summons and hastened to the palace, dressed in newly-cleaned robes and carrying a new magic staff granted to him by the temple; an ornate stave made from dragon teeth. Giving the appearance of fine ivory, this new staff would be useful in boosting his power.

Entering the throne room, he saw Adykon, Rhiga, Marcus, Lucien, Ku'ux, Margas, Minna, some unknown elven archer, Eriol, and Ilsa. The kids were not around now, but it was time to convene. "Hi! Er... I imagine I missed quite a bit. Who's the new guy?" That could have come out better, the cleric thought.

(OOC: Um, Ku'ux is already in the throne room, check the previous page)

Farstriker looked over to Vespion, raising up his grail some "This new guy happens to be Farstriker, an archer if you will" he told the cleric, taking another sip of the wine again.

Ku'ux just snorted slightly, his arms folded as he leaned against the wall as he watched everyone else now talk amongst themselves, deciding to keep his thought to himself for the time being.

(OOC: Thanks! Edited)

"So, what are we to do now?" Rhiga asked as she sat down on a chair, and pulled over another one, using the second one as a footrest. It was a good thing this was an informal meeting, as this was very poor etiquette on her part.

"We need to rescue Aerta. If you don't remember who she is, just know that she is that archmage female who helped us out with Arcantas that time."

"Ah, gotcha!" Rhiga replied while stretching her arms and legs.

"So, I think you told me she was in trouble, and that she is in her palace, a far way away from here, and that her husband is dead. How do you propose we get to her?" Vespion's question was a good one. While Aerta had contacted Adykon on occassion, there was no guarantee that she would do so. While she scryed on the party using her powerful spells from time to time, her vision was not so all-seeing that she was aware of their actions at any given moment.

In fact, at the time, she was sleeping. Aerta lay in her bed, curled up under the white sheets, still safe behind her palace walls. The estate built by her husband for the two of them was strong, and the magical shields which surrounded the structure stood firm, but how long could the sheath of semi-transparent magic last?

Vespion turned to Farstriker. "You are a ranger, yes? Do you know anything of our kind? I don't suppose the name 'Aerta' means anything to you, elf?"

" Aerta? Who is she? Minna asked. " a little background Adykon , if you please.. Lucien and I just got here, so we likely missed a great deal..."
_
Some more detail would be appreciated... Have you met her before? Can she really help against Dememorus? etc, etc.." Margas said."What is your interest in helping this archmage Adykon?' Ilsa asked "I trust you, of course, but a little background here would not hurt.."

"Ah, well, I do know a few things, I mean, I do take part in your archery contests that happen, well, anywhere they are held, I will most likely be there, so yes, I do have a rather good idea on your customs and what you usually do" Farstriker answered back to Vespion.

He glanced over to the others with a sip of the wine again, looking over to Isla in particular "This Aetra girl, Adykon here says she should be able to help out in one way or another against this Dememoras threat that has emerged, but of course, there is the matter on where to find her is all, and how we will rescue her if she does need rescuing in the end"

"I think I need to explain a bit more about her. Alright. Those of us who were there need no explanation..." Adykon nodded at Rhiga, who nodded back "... but our numbers are constantly in flux, so I should tell you all about her. Aerta is a female Dracon and an archmage. I don't know her age, but she was married. I say was married because she lost her husband, also an archmage, to Dememoras. Last time I saw her in person was back during our fight against Arcantas, which many of you were not there to see... although I know that Minna, Marcus, Ilsa, Rhiga, and myself were all there, along with several others... including some fox guy... anyway, long story short, without Aerta, we might not have been able to stop Arcantas, and after her husband died, she has been aiding me from her palace remotely, by casting spells and providing information during her many contacts with me, in my head."

Adykon thought about it, and while all of what he said was true, he might have been able to phrase it a bit better "Oh... I didn't make her up. She's been in contact with me by means of magic, although she isn't talking to me now. Don't take my word for it, Marcus, Rhiga, Minna, and Ilsa saw her too. Anyway, we've got to save her. She told me she was being besieged by Dememoras' forces. I don't know where her palace is, however. So, even if we could get there, we don't know where to go. That will have to be resolved."

Ilsa paused after hearing Adykon's explanation " so Aerta was that female archmage we met in the ruined temple when you were searching for that artifact.. 'interesting..has she shown.. how can i put this delicately?... interest... in you Adykon? You know how our laws treat the widowed...
-Ilsa! I doubt Adkyon has any interest in Aerta other than helping her against Dememoras, even if he does.. well that's his business"Margas rebuked. " I've never known you to be a gossip.. don't start now.."

"No, its okay. I admit that Aerta and I have shared much in our dreams. It is not easy for me to explain. Hmph. I guess this sort of thing just isn't easy to put into words. I-I don't wish to say more about that. Not now."

Adykon wasn't sure about the situation himself. How could he explain it to others?

"So, all we need to do is find out where Aerta actually is, and then we will have a point" Farstriker soon spoke up "But there is still the question on how we are going to find out where she is" he placed the grail down onto the table as he leaned forward a little on his seat.

Ku'ux gave off a small snort as he looked to Farstriker "We will find her, one way or another, but I hate to say it, but I agree with the elf, we still must find out where she is, otherwise, we will be wandering around aimlessly while Dememoras gets stronger by the day"

"An alternative may be that you Adykon should ask her next time she contacts you. But unless that happens tonight or very soon, we should start thinking in a plan-B to find her by asking for help of other mages." - Eriol spoke as he walked and leaned against the wall the again and as he crossed his arms. - "But we should also consider making another strategy to keep the battle against Dememoras until Aerta decides to appear again or until we have a clue on how to find her."

"Aerta is under siege and there is no time to lose. She's been under siege for a long time. As you are all aware, recent events have made it difficult or impossible for us to mount a rescue attempt, but now, we really ought to do so. We cannot wait around for her to contact me again."

Adykon sat down in one of the chairs in the throne room and began to think. There must be some way to contact Aerta using magic. Could Vespion do it? If not, could Minna? Ilsa? Could anyone?

Farstriker was also thinking on the matter at hand "Yes, it is indeed, a bit of a prediciment that we're in, so what do you suggest that we do first?" he decided to ask as he was, for the time being, out of ideas himself, so he had nothing to really share with everyone.

Ku'ux on the other hand, just snorted a little bit at what Farstriker had said "Isn't it obvious? We need to at least start to gather information on finding this Aerta person, so far, it seems like she is a much more of a higher priority than anything else"

"But that still leaves the question on how we are going to start finding out information on where we are going to start to find Aerta, where would we begin on that half? As we have already established that none of us know where her city is" Farstriker replied back to Ku'ux.

Vespion cleared his throat and announced a plan to his to the group "I don't know where she is, and I don't know anyone who does, but I do know of some people who can find out for us."

"Would this be a certain group of mages? Clerics? I'm sure that if we have a scrying spell that is strong enough-" Adykon began to outline an idea for a high-powered scrying spell which could reveal a location by showing the spellcaster a vision of the person, place, or thing in question, but Vespion cut him off.

"No. Not a scrying spell. It is a standard precaution for a mage to cast anti-scrying wards on his domicile. Even if we do have enough power to get through Aerta's wards, we still might not be able to pinpoint an exact location, although we will get to see inside her palace. We just wouldn't know where it is. To that end, I suggest we enlist the services of some psionics."

"A psionic? Wait, are you talking about those mentalists? I don't trust them." Rhiga knew that the psionics were a group of mages with the ability to read minds, as well as lift things with sheer mental magic. Being a thief back in Hekaga, Rhiga had long dreaded being captured and having her mind read, which would reveal all of her crimes.

"Many Dracons don't trust them either, because they can not only read minds, they have the power to manipulate minds as well. Furthermore, no one who is a psionic is born with that power, at least, no dracon is. Every last one of them learns it by their own efforts. In any case, their guild is encased in solid black granite, which keeps them from reading minds that are outside their guild walls. We should be cautious when we go there, and spend as little time in the company of the psionics as we can. We only need them to scan the astral plane and detect Aerta's mind, make contact with her, and get her to tell us where to go to find her." Vespion's plan was sound, but Adykon wanted to know something...

"How do we know she will even be projecting her soul onto the astral plane? She can't be doing it all of the time."

"That is correct. Mages such as her, however, like to scan the planes at least once a day. All we need is for her to scan them once for a second, and we should be able to make contact."

"How do you know what she is like?" Adykon knew that Vespion never saw Aerta, and that the cleric was making a generalization about her.

"I don't know what she is like, Adykon. At best, my analysis is an educated guess. If you have a better idea, I'll listen."

"I... do not. Alright. Let's try the psionic thing. I know where that guild is. Are we all ready?"
