The African Wild Dog pack with Matsu had regrouped and moved further inland, to keep their younglings safe from the panthers...

Matsu joined other scouts in trying to seek out the killers' trailed to the outskirts of the kingdom. They've found nothing...

Matsu was with Zulu as they watched the cubs playing in the rain.

"I'd never expect an outside invader would put us on high alert," Zulu said.

"Even when the Outsiders trespassed into the kingdom, it wasn't enough to move the entire kingdom like this," Matsu replied.

"But we don't know this enemy at all. Not their numbers, or their purpose. The only thing we do know is that they plan to wipe us out of this kingdom, and they nearly killed the royal family."

"All the more reason to keep on our toes. This may end up starting something much bigger than before..."

wiping out the royal family seems to at least one of thier reasons, and that's bad enough' replied a leopard to Matsu " We can't oppose a huge army though, we don't have enough forces for that..even if we threw the elephants and other big creatures into the bargain..

That is why we need to scout the enemy ' the leopard replied " the more we know, the better our defenses.. and time is not our ally here.. judging by the sppede and ability of thier attacks on the patrols last night, they know wjhat they are doing..

therein lies the question." the leopard replied.. scouting them would be very risky..even if we learn information about then, getting back in time for it to have an effect is very doubtful. have you raised the possibility marsu of evacuating the pridelands? if we cannot stop them, then the royal family should withdraw from the pridelands for their own safety.."

"It has come to mind," Matsu answered. "But it's not mine to make. Only the King is the one to choose that decision. And there's an issue with such a massive evacuation... The attacks on the royal family where in the Elephant Graveyard, the east. And the attacks last night were in the west. Chances are that we are surrounded outside our borders. Unless..." He paused.

Zulu looked at him curiously. "You have a plan?"

"It's better than waiting to be attacked again. But I must speak with the King for his approval."

"Well, get going then! Time is not on our side."

Matsu gave a half-smile before heading off for Pride Rock...

Simba paused as he noticed Matsu approach " what have you learned Matsu? the king asked. "What should we do in response to theses attacks? i suspect that those panthers are planning a full scale invasion, if if their forces are large, we will not be able to hold them off.."

Matsu bowed as he approached. "My King. Some of my cohorts and I have been hypothesizing on the attacks the panthers have launched since yesterday, and I've come to some theories. And if my theories are correct, I may have some ideas. Crazy and desperate, but somehow it might work..."

"Yes, my Lord," Matsu started. "Form our past experiences, I deduced that the attacks overnight from the west had been by small groups, and the attack yesterday in the Elephant Graveyard was a much larger force. I assume that the invasion itself will come from the east, and that the overnight attacks not only decimated the number of scouts, but also put us in a false belief of where the true attack is coming from."

i see, so it will likely come from the east. the attacks from the west are meant to give the impression that we are surrounded on both sides by large numbers. the unfortunate truth is Matsu, is that we must evacuate before they invade. if that force we fought in the elephant graveyard is any indication of their strength, and i suspect that we only fought a fraction of their numbers, they would completely overwhelm our defenses in an invasion, even though we knew it was coming. they would then come for me and my family and we would stand little to no chance of defending ourselves against a large force and my family lineage would end with the murder of Kiara and Kopa. i will not allow that to happen, obviously. so what plans have you come up with? no matrer how crazy i will listen, however Matsu if I think they will not work, than you must start the evacuation.."

"That may be to our advantage, my King," Matsu replied. "If they are to launch an attack, it should most likely be when the storm has cleared and the morning sun would be against us in seeing them. Also, there is very little cover here in the Pridelands to assist us. So, if there is any territory north or south of us that contains anything like jungles, it would help some of your followers that use the trees. This falling back will also cause the panthers to expel much of their energy to pursue us, especially if they could find no food left in the kingdom. The only thing that troubles me is that the rains might let up my morning, so this temporary retreat may have to be finished before then..."
