(I just learned this one while watching David Attenborough’s documentary series "The Life of Birds".)

The crested bellbird (Oreoica gutturalis) protects its eggs by lining its nest with hairy caterpillars, whose venomous spines sting any mammal that tries to poke its nose in.

Did you know that the Wilkes Land crater in Antarctica is the largest impact crater on Earth known to exist . It is 300 miles in diameter, which covers an area larger than the state of Ohio. That means the impactor must have been about four or five times bigger in diameter than the one that created the Chicxulub Crater, which killed the dinosaurs. It is dated to be about 250 million years old, making it a possible cause for the Permian-Triassic extinction event. It is also believed that the impact may have triggered the break-up of the supercontinent of Gondwana. (Obviously, this crater wasn't discovered until recently due to all the ice that covers it.)

Yup. In fact, at last count, there were over 10,000 living species of beaked, feathered, toothless, winged dinosaurs, all descended from sharpteeth. We call them "birds".
