The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Anna glanced in the direction Rob had looked in.

"I had a feelin' they would do this," Anna whispered in response.  "You're right, it's best we don't alert the others."  She then noticed the stranger everybody had stopped to stare at.

"Who is that?" she wondered out loud.

-----------------------

"I hope they don't see us," Cera said.

"I hope not either, oh no no no," Ducky added.

Rob knew instantly who the stranger was. He knew him through all the RP's he had participated in on GOF. I wondered when I would meet him. I wonder if he knows that his nephew is here as well? Rob smiled, as he knew exactly who this stranger was. "I had a feeling you would show up. It's nice to finally meet you, Cyrix."

Zaine noticed Cyrix approach the rescue party. "Well Cyrix is keeping them occupied. That will give us more time to sneak around. I wonder what took him so long to get here. I figured he would have been among the first to help rescue Pangaea."

"Your guess is as good as mine," Littlefoot agreed, "but like you said, this gives us an advantage that we can't afford to waste. Let's keep moving now that he has their attention."

Cyrix looked up at Rob and smiled.
"Oh you must be one of the newcomers to the valley. I'm sorry, but I don't seem to know who you are." he said to Rob. "I was also unaware that so many of you would be traveling outside the valley today. How may I be of assistance?"

Longtail looked at Littlefoot with a smile. "Good idea." he then took a moment to sniff the air and he caught a scent on the wind. "Hey!", he said quietly. "I think I smell my uncle!"

"Glad to see you here.  We can certainly use extra help." Grandpa Longneck said to Cyrix once he saw who it was and everyone else had spoken, seeing no hurry to speak.

"Yes, nice to see you here." Mim said.

----------

"Me glad." Petrie said, "he distract them so they no see  us me hope." Petrie said, hoping Cyrix's appearance would indeed distract them so they would not see them.

As Thud arrived at Red Claw and Screech’s location, he saw a number of the fast biters he had enlisted earlier that had apparently gotten there just before him. Screech was squawking out instructions to them; turning his head to indicate a specific direction (his hands being filled by the glider), he sent them on their way, presumably to their ambush positions.

Excellent work, Thud!” Red Claw said as he detected Thud’s arrival via his powerful sense of smell. “We’ve already had several fast biters arrive; Screech has been directing them to spread out and find hiding places for the ambush. They will attack on my signal.

All this for just one flyer?” Thud said.

Red Claw growled and lowered his head to Thud’s level. “Perhaps you will never understand until you get your own eyes ripped out by an inferior creature. My hatred of that flyer is like none I have ever felt before, and I willó

Red Claw suddenly stopped and snifed the air. He reared up to get a better whiff. “Oh, bones!” he cursed. “I can smell the leafeaters already! They’re here too soon! Not all of the fast biters are in position yet!” He snarled in frustration. “We will need to distract them somehow!

--------------------------------------------------

Ever since he had been grabbed by Screech, Pangaea had not stopped shaking. The expectation of his imminent death was straining his nerves to their limits; Pangaea seriously doubted that he had ever felt so terrified.

He tried as best as he could to focus his mind on something else, but his thoughts kept snapping back to the knowledge that he was probably about to die. The unusual circumstances of his anticipated demise inspired some surprisingly philosophical contemplation, however: If I die in the LBT world, do I just wake up back home, or am I dead for good? he pondered. Paradoxically, the uncertainty of his post-mortem future made him even more tense, but the possibility that it wouldn’t be the end for him gave him hope and calmed him to some extent.

Pangaea couldn’t stop wondering about another thing, though: What are they waiting for? Why don’t they just kill me? He almost wished that Screech would just bite his head off or crush him in his claws already, and spare him the torturous anticipation. He was certain that Screech still held a grudge from Pangaea attacking him the previous night; after all, Pangaea figured, what could be more humiliating to a sharptooth than being attackedóand beaten!óby a prey animal a fraction of its size?

What Pangaea didn’t understand is why Screech seemed to be doing everything possible not to hurt or kill him. When he finally arrived at the most plausible reason, Pangaea felt like an idiot for taking so long to figure it out. Oh no…They’re using me as bait?! It made sense; Red Claw had already attacked the Great Valley twice in less than a day’s time, and obviously failed to get whatever it is he wanted (which was almost certainly Amy, Pangaea thought, if she had been the one who blinded him). He must be attempting a new strategy: drawing his quarry out from the safety of the valley. Unfortunately, this realization made Pangaea feel even more depressed than he already was: if anyone in the valley came out to rescue him, and ended up being hurt or injured, he doubted that he could ever forgive himself. Worse, if the rescue attempt were unsuccessful, Pangaea would probably die himself before he even had the chance.

John grimaced, his only focus was on rescueing Pangaea, "well I don't want to be rude but a friend is in need,so I insist we push on" John explained to the dinosaur known as Cyrix.

Pterano and Amy were over some mountains, looking for a place to rest for a bit.

"Is everything okay Amy?" The orange colored flyer gave a puzzled expression at the siamese patterned flyer.

"Yeah, I'm fine," She looked down at her feet to be sure she had some balance and would not slip. Her tone was muttered in a way that made Pterano not convinced that she was okay, but he did not say anything and continued flying overhead.

As they were looking for a place, Amy thought over her decision to leave the valley and how much she was willing to sacrifice to leave the people she knew and loved.

Is this really worth sacrificing? What in the world am I going to do if Red Claw tries to attack them again? But maybe if I do something to distract him...he’ll leave them alone. The smart thing to do would be to find a way out of this world and live the remainder of this world the best way I can. But the bold thing would be to have Red Claw hunting after me...so no one else gets hurt.

Amy halted for a moment and Pterano almost didn’t see her stop, so he stopped in mid air and tried to get to her level.

“Amy?” He asked. After a brief pause, Amy shook her head and stated, “Pterano, I’m just wondering...”

She trailed off, wondering if it would be wise to tell her thoughts to him. Finally she decided to change immediately what she was going to say.

“How far off are we from shelter. I’m smelling the air and it’s a little moist.”

Pterano nodded in agreement, “Yes you’re right, it’s rather moist around these parts, well luckily we aren’t too far off, just a few more wing lengths and we will be there.”

He flew overhead again and Amy, with her new improved eye sight watched up float up. She thought it was fascinating, as humans are as smart as they claim to be, they still did not know how certain birds flew. What fascinated her even more was that a prehistoric reptile right in front of her was flying and she, a descendant of these primitive species, could witness it and try it for herself. She still pondered over the situation however, if Red Claw didn’t know she left, it would be likely that he would strike again in the valley.
--------------
Red Claw was thinking quick, trying to see what they could do to distract the  Great Valley residents. He growled to Thud, shoved him forward and muttered, “Go! Distract them while you can.”
------------
Mr. Three Horn froze, feeling a very eerie chill up his spine. He also sniffed the air and sighed. If things weren’t bad enough, sky water was going to splash upon them. He however, felt something else astir.

Rebecca noticed Mr. Three Horn's halt and flew over to him, "What is it?"

Mim paused as did Grandpa Longneck since Mr. Threehorn had stopped and they knew he would not stop unless he had a good reason to.

"Is something up?" Grandpa Longneck asked.

"Or about to come down?" Mim asked looking up at the sky.

----

Flapper had found a good size branch he could use as a weapon and went out behind the others and worked on trying to catch up with the group of adults who had left.

Rob laughed a bit at Cyrix's confusion. "Sorry, I got ahead of myself. I'll explain it later. My name's Rob by the way." Rob then stopped dead in his tracks when he saw Mr. Threehorn freeze. "He doesn't stop like this for anything," he said to Cyrix. "Something is definitely wrong." He looked around some more, and again he could have sworn he saw fast biters. I must be paranoid or something. "What is it?" he called out to Mr. Threehorn. "What's wrong?"

As the group continued to climb, Littlefoot noticed the rescue party had stopped. "Hey guys, something's wrong. They've stopped moving."

Zaine noticed it as well. "Cera's dad is on to something. I don't think I've ever seen him like that."

Littlefoot nodded. "We need to be even more careful now. If something is about to happen, we need to be somewhere safe." He looked back down at the party. Please nothing happen to them.

Anna overheard Mim's comment and glanced up at the sky before she glanced at the rocky ground beneath them.  She then returned her glance to Mr. Threehorn.

"Damn, this isn't lookin' good at all," Anna spoke up.  "If we have to move fast and the ground gets slippery, this could be even more dangerous than we had anticipated."

------------------------

"Don't worry so much, Littlefoot.  My dad will take on any sharptooth that dares to mess with them.  They've got a brave threehorn with them, that's for sure," Cera said.  She then sniffed the air and glanced up.

"Oh, great.  Just what we need," Cera grumbled.

"The skywater will make the ground too slippery, yes it will," Ducky added in a nervous manner.

Mr. Three Horn, in frustration, shused all who was asking him questions.

"Quiet! Just listen!" He paused for a moment to listen to anything that would deem "dangerous" or "not normal". He heard a bit of growling ahead and stated.

"Everyone! Stay firm and strong, I hear something ahead!" He placed himself forward of everyone and stared toward the direction to the noise.
------------
She walked with Pterano and they finally found a resting spot. It was a cliff den that like a bit unkept, as if it wasn’t maintained for days.

“Well...I guess this will have to do for tonight.” Pterano nodded as he cleared a bit of the clutter away and Amy brushed past the clutter. She tried to help out as well, but Pterano stopped her and responded, “I can do the rest, you just try to go to sleep.”

Amy blushed slightly as Pterano held her hand, but she quickly backed away and stated, “Don’t worry about me, I can do some of my share.” She turned away to clear some of the clutter, but Pterano kept insisting, “Amy...a young flyer such as yourself needs strength if you want to start your flying lessons.” He stepped in her way to try to hold her attention.

Amy was not comfortable with this closeness at all, even if this was Pterano that was getting this close.

"I said I.CAN.DO.THIS." She was serious this time, giving a stern stare at him as she said this in an unknowingly frustrated tone.

The orange flyer raised a brow, a bit startled by the younger flyer's action.

"Ok...sorry, I just thought you might needed a rest." He turned away and cleared off the clutter on one side while Amy cleared clutter off the other side. As she did so, she thought over what she was going to do.

I don't know what I should do...should I go back to see if everything's okay, or just stay out of the valley and forget about it?

"It seems we are near" John said, he and a few others including Bron and a parasaur were,at first,reluctant to go on any further seeing as it was growling that they had heard, however they went along with it regardless.
------
"I don't know,Cera, there could be many sharpteeth waithing for them" Ali explained.

Rick gave a momentary scoff as he replied quietly, "Ali, fastbiters may be smart... but come on, in the Mysterious Beyond, where would Red Claw find any other sharpteeth willing to join and fight with him... I'm sure most of them hate his guts."

Longtail landed on Zaines back and whispered, "I smell sharpteeth... ALOT of sharpteeth... like enough to be a really big threat.... I think we need to be ready for anything."

Spike could smell the sharpteeth too and his natural reaction kicked in as he took two cautious steps back and looked to Littlefoot with a pleading gaze as if to say 'can we go home now?'

~~~
Cyrix stepped next to Mim and Rob as he gently asked, "If we're all out here... and the sharpteeth are so close by... then who's watching after the children?"
((OOC: I didn't think Ali was even with Littlefoot and his group. I just figured nobody did anything with her. Also, judging by Amy's post I am assuming that we are interacting with the fast biters now. Please correct me if I'm wrong Amy.))
Rob sighed. "That's another thing," he whispered back to Cyrix. "Littlefoot and the others are following us down below. They're climbing up around the other side to higher ground. Your nephew and Zaine are with them. We're trying to keep their presence a secret because we don't want to expose them to any sharpteeth out here." Unfortunately, it seemed they arrived at their destination, because a group of fast biters appeared around them. Rob immediately tensed up, keeping his hands in a defensive position ready to fight back. "I should have figured this was a trap!"
Zaine nodded. "It is the Mysterious Beyond after all, but I agree. I have a really bad feeling about this." Then he noticed the fast biters were already surrounding the party. "Oh no! They've got them! Littlefoot, we have to do something!"
"We will," Littlefoot assured. He then addressed the rest of the group. "We can't do anything from this position. We're almost at the top of this hill where we can get a better view. Just keep moving but try not to get spotted. If we can get to the top then we should be fine."
(OOC: @GVG: Ok,didn't know that. @LBTfan13: Its easy to assume that she was with them the whole time, she just didn't have anything to say.)
John stopped in his tracks as two fast biters appeared before him "I was expecting this" he said nonchalantly before continuing "a clever ambush, I must say. But sadly, it will not stop me"...
"Yup, I too figured this would happen.  Sharpteeth are so predictable when you're a living thing that's smarter than them," Anna sighed.  She then thought of the children and how she and Rob had seen them not long before.
I hope they don't do anything stupid, Anna thought to herself as she watched the fastbiters like a hawk.
-----------------------
"So, when can we kick some fastbiter tail?" Cera snorted.
"They to big for us to fight." Petrie said.  "How we help them?"
(OOC: THE FAST BITERS SHOULDN'T BE ATTACKING YET. I hadn't planned on them even coming into view until after the negotiation attempt by Chronicler and Myrkin's characters. The idea was that Red Claw & co. agree to negotiate in order to give the fast biters time to surround the group. By the way, I can't really post anything else after this until Chronicler and Myrkin make the first move in trying to talk to Thud, Screech, and Red Claw.)
What?!” Thud squawked as Red Claw pushed him forward with his order to distract the approaching leafeaters. “Why can’t Screech do it?
Because I’m holding the glider, you dope!” Screech snapped.
But how am I supposed to fight an entire herd on my own?” Thud protested.
You can’t attack them,” Screech told him. “I told the other fast biters not to strike or even show themselves until you and Red Claw attack.
What about you?” Thud asked.
Screech rolled his eyes, held up Pangaea, and shook him in front of Thud (much to Pangaea’s discomfort). “Hello? Glider!” he said in a sarcastic, singsongy tone. “I can’t fight as long as I’m holding this thing.
Well, give him to me and you go keep the leafeaters busy!
And risk letting him get away? Not a chance!” Screech snarled. “I’ve got a score to settle with this glider once this whole thing is done.
Can you at least come with me? The leafeaters are coming to get the glider, after all. They won’t trample you as long as you’re holding him.
As much as he didn’t want to admit it, Screech couldn’t argue with that logic. “Red Claw, do you think he’s right?” he asked the big sharptooth, a hint of reluctance in his voice. “Should I go with him?
Pangaea, meanwhile, breathed a shuddery sigh of anxiety and longing. He had never wished more that he could understand what the sharpteeth were saying.
