We've made it to the top 20! It won't be too long before we see where the top characters rank!

Ranks 20-11
Kicking off the top 20, we have the annoying Threehorn twins, Dinah and Dana, with 13 minutes and 49 seconds on screen in Secret of Saurus Rock. It's not surprising that their antics are annoying due to the fact that they're babies, but given that they literally took Cera's "Get lost" advice to heart by absentmindedly and fearlessly running away to Saurus Rock, that simply drew my ire, and I guess now you see why I just don't like these characters. I will cut them some slack for being toddlers, but still I can't think of how something like that can be excused. They ended up bringing bad luck to the Great Valley as they were the ones who broke Saurus Rock, and thus they rubbed me the wrong way.

In 19th place, we have Littlefoot's father, Bron, with 14 minutes and 12 seconds of screen time over the course of two movie appearances. Right up until the 10th movie, we were left to believe that Littlefoot was an orphan after his mother's death in the first movie, but then we learned he had a long-lost father, and when the truth was revealed, I'm sure we all felt the same way Littlefoot did. The classic case of "Where have you been all my life!?" Bron's flashbacks of his views of events from the first movie really captured our curiosities, and the fact that Kiefer Sutherland, of all people, was his voice in this movie was just amazing! This was early on during his run as Jack Bauer on "24," and he sought to use his own natural voice for Bron. It paid off, and it even paved the way for Scott Whyte to take the same approach. This is the same Scott Whyte who later took over the role of Captain Qwark in "Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart" after Jim Ward had been forced to retire for health reasons. Bron quickly became a fan-favorite, and he's a character whom many would like to see more of.

At #18, we have, in my opinion, the worst character in the entire series; Doofah. Her screen time on Wisdom of Friends was 15 minutes and 32 seconds, becoming our first character on this list to surpass a quarter of an hour of screen time. Yes, I just said Doofah is the worst character in the entire series, even worse than Loofah. Doofah definitely shows stupider tendencies than Loofah does. I can't believe they brought Sandra Oh of "Grey's Anatomy" to voice this abomination. Oh didn't deserve to be given this terrible role. Crazy fact: Doofah's screen time actually excludes a few shots she was in because she was not supposed to be in those shots where the herd took cover from the rain as she had separated from the herd in her stupidity, thus making this a major continuity error. 15:32 is thus her "correct" screen time without the continuity error. God, Wisdom of Friends was such an abomination that should never have been released, but I need to move on to the next character before I continue rambling at this terrible movie!

Well, the perfect character to save me from Doofah; the mother of my favorite character! Mama Flyer ranks at #17 with a total of 15 minutes and 36 seconds of screen time. It's actually quite unfortunate that Mama Flyer ended up this low on the list. The most screen time she got in a single movie was just shy of five minutes in Great Day of the Flyers, where she also posted her best film rank at #11 out of 17 characters in said movie. She appeared in 12 movies, and yet she did not rank in the top ten in ANY of them. Honestly, it's very sad that we barely even got glimpses of Petrie's mother, and she deserves a lot more, especially given the small glimpse we got of the relationship between her and her son in the 12th movie. While her other children were bashing Petrie to no end, their mother was quick to stop their ranting, and here we got the ONLY scene in the entire series where it was just Petrie and his mother alone. We finally saw that she loves Petrie just the way he is despite his numerous flaws, because he is her flesh and blood, and she would do anything to make him happy. The scene unfortunately ended with Mama Flyer not succeeding in cheering Petrie up, but we know that the time the two spent together offscreen must have been very happy most of the time. She is a caring and loving mother to Petrie, and we unfortunately got next to no onscreen glimpses of that. No wonder she's a major character in most of my LBT fanfiction stories.

To make things even worse for Mama Flyer, I am utterly dismayed to reveal that she ended up being sandwiched between the two most insufferable Yellow Bellies, as Loofah (the leader of the Yellow Belly herd) ranks in 16th with 16 minutes and 20 seconds of screen time in Wisdom of Friends. Just as I was about to say that we needed more of Mama Flyer, well here's more proof of that. I've already went on bashing Wisdom of Friends to no end. Seriously, need I say more ... ?

UGH!! Moving on!

Okay, we got all three Yellow Bellies out of the way. Now I can relax! Anyways, moving on to the top 15, we have Mr. Thicknose, the children's tutor in Big Freeze, who had 16 minutes and 49 seconds on screen, most of which was in the second half of the 8th movie. He was actually one of the few characters who had more screen time than any one member of the Gang of Five in any movie, as he ended up having more screen time in Big Freeze than both Spike and Petrie, coming in 4th place for his only film appearance. He started out as some sort of schoolteacher for the Gang, but after Littlefoot exposed him for lying about the coming snow, the Great Valley shunned him for "not knowing everything." It wasn't until he ended up accompanying the Gang to the Mysterious Beyond after Spike had left and Ducky had sneaked out looking for him that he finally came clean about his past and even had his own song, showing his eagerness to redeem himself. In my opinion, his song alone was his great redemption, although he did later save the Gang by delivering the killing blow to a Sharptooth whom had stalked them along the mountain range. That along with providing the Gang protection throughout their misadventure earned high praise from many who previously doubted him. He certainly didn't start out as a likeable character, but in the end, he proved to be one of the most heartwarming characters, as shown when he forgave Littlefoot after what he had done at the beginning of the film and became a good companion to the Gang in general. I guess it's sad that he, too, was limited to just one movie, but he did stick around for the TV series, as if that's any better.

Ah, here we go! In 14th place, we have one of the most popular characters in the entire Land Before Time series, and that is, of course, none other than Petrie's dear old uncle Pterano! He had 16 minutes and 50 seconds of screen time in his one-and-only appearance in Stone of Cold Fire, putting him just ONE second ahead of Mr. Thicknose! This character quickly became a big inspiration for LBT fanworks because of his relationship with his nephew Petrie, and it's one of the reasons why Stone of Cold Fire is considered one of the more favored sequels. His Scottish-like, Shakespearean voice provided by British actor Michael York (who was starring in the Austin Powers films at the time) was the icing on the cake! Despite his evilness, he is considered one of the best characters in the whole franchise (besides the Gang). Of course, though, he did have his infamous flaws that made others shun him, but actually for rightful reasons. He led part of the herd astray, which led to all of them being slaughtered while only he escaped and was met with resentment and hatred for what he had done. Then, of course, he manipulated his own nephew into forcing the Stone of Cold Fire's location out of Littlefoot's mouth just for his own selfish desires, as he sought to use the Stone's supposed magical powers to obtain new magical abilities and make the Great Valley conform to his will. It definitely was wrong that he allowed Sierra to capture Ducky in the night for spying on them, but on the other side of that, he did show that he would not tolerate any harm coming to her and especially his nephew Petrie, as shown when he slapped Rinkus in retaliation for swatting Petrie out of the sky. When Ducky was believed to have fallen to her death, unlike his minions, he showed genuine remorse for what he had supposedly done. He even tried to stop Rinkus and Sierra from murdering the children in cold blood. To cap it all off, when he finally came to his senses once it became clear that he was never going to obtain the magical powers he had sought after, he redeemed himself in an epic way by rescuing Ducky, the very dinosaur he had captured, from falling to her death, and even the valley agreed that this was a good deed worthy of having his banishment reduced to five years. His emotional parting with his tearful nephew and his subsequent departure from the valley left all of us begging for more, but he unfortunately was never heard from again. I could go on all day about how we all want to see so much more of Pterano, but we still have another 13 characters to go over.

13th place is going to Cera's stepmother, Tria, with 17 minutes and 35 seconds of screen time. She first appeared in Invasion of the Tinysauruses and played a big part in mellowing Topps out, which, after a while, succeeded in making him a softer character than he was before. It did take her a while to earn Cera's respect, but after seeing how she defended the Tiny Longnecks, going against her own future mate's wishes, Cera finally began to see her as a likeable Threehorn, and the two began to spend some quality time together and know each other a lot more. By the next film, Topps and Tria were officially together and were expecting a child, and later on, they had a beautiful daughter named Tricia, giving Cera a new baby sister. Her final film appearance was in Wisdom of Friends, where her role was much smaller. She was in plenty of TV episodes, but she and Tricia were both absent from Journey of the Brave for some reason, so here she is at lucky #13.

#12 is one of the most prominent one-movie characters, and this was none other than Littlefoot's cousin, Ali, with 17 minutes and 43 seconds of screen time, all in Journey Through the Mists. You may have noticed a Silver medal on the top right of her picture, and that's because she had the second-most screen time in her only movie appearance, having more screen time than everyone except Littlefoot. When Grandpa Longneck fell ill shortly after Ali's herd arrived in the Great Valley, and Littlefoot learned of the Night Flowers from the Land of Mists (the herd's former home), which was the only thing that could cure his ailing grandfather, he sought Ali's help, knowing she would know the way to the Land of Mists, and this was responsible for boosting her screen time so much that she took the Silver medal for screen time in Journey Through the Mists and ultimately took the #12 spot overall, becoming the lowest-ranked "medalist" on this list. Sadly, though, she made no further film appearances after that, leaving many of us wondering why.

At #11, we have the second character in a row with a Silver-earning one-off movie appearance. In this case, it was Guido from Great Day of the Flyers, with 22 minutes and 29 seconds of screen time, making him our first 20+ minute character. This strange character just randomly pops up in the Great Valley having no idea how he even got there, and he doesn't even fit in anywhere. On top of that, his preferred food is worms, which disgusted some of the valley residents, including Petrie's siblings. That said, though, he eventually found a way to fit in by coaching Petrie during his flying practice, as the Day of the Flyers was right around the corner, and until then Petrie had been messing up everything. Guido ended up bringing out the best in Petrie, but on the night before the Day of the Flyers, we saw just why he has no idea why he ends up at random places: he's a sleepwalker and a sleep-flyer. Those slow-paced scenes of his sleepwalking and sleep-flying, to go along with his run-in with the Sailback Sharptooth, prompting a brave rescue effort by Petrie, boosted his screen time significantly, and he ended up ranking second behind Petrie in Great Day of the Flyers, becoming one of only four characters to beat Littlefoot in any film. Yes, he also played a part in rescuing Tricia, but could not succeed on his own, and Tricia would not have made it out had it not been for Petrie. Guido is a strange character, no doubt, but he shaped Petrie into becoming a brave and formidable Flyer by the end of the film.
Oh, boy! We've got the top ten coming up now! In the next post, we will look at ranks 10th through 4th!
