The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

I’m so sorry for making everyone wait so long! :bang Forgive me, please; as you know I’ve had a lot on my plate recently, and have been stressed to the point that I think I’m dipping into depression. I am still willing to be the GM of this RP (and I am very grateful for any and all help that is offered to me; thank you Rob and Chronicler :yes), and would like to get it back up and running as soon as possible.

I’ve been talking with Amy/Rat_lady7 via e-mail, and she has described to me the plans she had for her characters before she decided to leave. I think these will help us in deciding who will take over which characters and what we should do with them (thus providing us with guidelines for moving ahead in the RP). The following are the plans she shared for each of her characters (slightly modified from their original wording):

Mr. Threehorn and Tria:
Quote
Mr. Three Horn and Tria are speaking of how safe their daughters actually are in the valley. Mr. Three Horn is anxious about it, while Tria is trying to be more relaxed and sound about it.

Mr. Three Horn respects the newcomers more, in fact he ends up liking them and I planned for him to stick up for Rob when the dinosaurs call him out for being a sharptooth. However, he still distrusts Pterano to an extent and doesn't care for my character at all.

Tria ends up more or less deeply respecting the newcomers, but is wary around Chronicler and Pterano because of their previous actions. Like the mother that she is, she makes sure her daughters are safe and she is around them when these two characters are around.

Pterano and Rebecca (Petrie’s mother):
Quote
Rebecca is conversing with Pterano about where he and Amy were when the attack came up. Pterano wants his sister to know he had no ill intention with Amy and he simply did not feel welcome in the valley anymore.

Pterano wonders where Amy went off to, but realizes that Amy is probably drained from what happened. So he ends up trying to find his place in the valley. In the meantime, he could spend more time with Petrie and his other nieces and nephews.

Rebecca of course does what she does as a mother and looks after the kids, but she also takes part in the valley's issues and the things that happen. She also seems to be having a conflict between trusting Pterano and loving him as a brother.
By the way, Petrie’s sister, Terry, who appears in Amy’s last post with Pterano and Rebecca, is an OC of hers who does not need to be played by anyone.

Amy (her dinosona):
Quote
I'm scratching out the idea of obliterating myself from the RP completely. Amy tries to converse with Anna and the others but finds herself more to herself and alone. She then goes to the Thundering Falls to try to catch some fish, with funny results as the fish seem to get the best of her.

I definitely don't want her to leave the valley, I want her to stay in it, but what I was thinking about Amy is that once she is done (eventually) eating her breakfast, I would take her in some cave away from everyone else and have her sleep, being emotionally drained from what has happened. So maybe have her sleep for most of the day and have her be more of a “background” character rather then a major character.

Red Claw (who at the moment is making his way back to the site of last night’s battle, searching for food as well as Screech and Thud; Screech has already vocally informed Red Claw of his and Thud’s location):
Quote
I do want Red Claw to have a point where he finally cracks completely and appears to have quit plotting revenge on my character. When he teams up with the other characters (the Giganotosaurus and Spinosaurus), he could be the insecure oddball leader of them, and the others treat him like he has gone off his rocker (which is actually the case). However in the end while it looks like he is no longer looking, he wants revenge on my character, but even more so Screech and Thud for leaving him. At this result, I think there needs to be a point where he just doesn't trust anyone anymore.

The following are links to Amy’s last two posts, which should be useful for setting the starting points for whoever takes over her characters. The first deals with Pterano/Rebecca and Mr. Threehorn/Tria (as well as Amy); the second with Amy and Red Claw.

Given to how slow I am at writing posts, I decided that I’d post this information now so that you can all look at it while I’m working on my next post, in which I’ll recap ideas that have previously come up as well as sharing new ones.

Well, I didn’t plan on taking a whole day to type it, :wacko but here’s a rundown of the events that have been planned or suggested for this RP, divided into separate subplots.

Subplot 1: Red Claw

I had an idea (inspired by something GVG said to me in a PM) that Red Claw will be infuriated at having been defeated by the leafeaters the previous night, and, as his sanity spirals down the drain, vows to kill them all. (This way, Amy wouldn’t need to be the main target of Red Claw’s attacks anymore, and could afford to become a background character.)

I was also planning that Screech and Thud, who have already begun to lose faith in Red Claw’s leadership as he becomes more and more unhinged and obsessed with revenge, eventually abandon Red Claw to seek revenge on their own. This prompts the increasingly irrational Red Claw to swear revenge on them as well.

Red Claw eventually meets the Spinosaurus from the 12th movie (played by Redtooth101, who I believe has decided to call him “Stromer”) and the Giganotosaurus from LBT V (named “Gigano” by his player, FlipperBoidSkua), and decides to recruit them as allies for his cause. Unfortunately, the constant presence of two sharpteeth who are even larger and more powerful than him (not to mention fully sighted) gives Red Claw feelings of insecurity and paranoia, further aggravating his descent into madness.

I’m not sure whether to have Screech and Thud leave Red Claw before or after Gigano and Stromer join up with him; on one hand, I like the idea that the intimidation factor of the two giant predators contributes to the fast biters’ decision, but on the other hand it may be a long time before both of the sharpteeth are there, and Screech and Thud might have to split with Red Claw sooner if they are to interact with other players’ characters when they are needed.

Subplot 2: The Big Water Group

A small group (which I know will at least include my, FlipperBoidSkua’s, and LBTDiclonius’s dinosonas, as well as Guido, Ozzy, and Strut) leaves the valley to visit the Big Water.

I’m not entirely sure yet what motivates them to leave; part of it could be that Pangaea feels responsible for the valley dinosaurs who died the previous night coming to save him from Red Claw, Screech, and Thud, and fears that the surviving dinosaurs blame him for it as well. So he decides to temporarily leave the valley

An idea Amy and I discussed is that Sparky (FlipperBoidSkua’s character, a Therizinosaurus) inadvertently frightens one or more valley dinosaurs (perhaps children who then tell their parents) who have never seen her kind before and are unaware that she is not dangerous. The incident is exaggerated through word of mouth, and eventually comes to the attention of Mr. Threehorn. When he finally meets Sparky, he too is alarmed by her enormous claws and unfamiliar appearance, and his still slightly overzealous concern for the valley (coupled with what he has heard about Sparky “attacking” another valley dinosaur) leads him to jump to the conclusion that Sparky is dangerous and must be ousted from the valley. My character protests and tries to convince Mr. Threehorn that she is harmless, to no avail. I’d rather not reveal all of the details of what ends up happening, but let’s just say that Pangaea decides to beat Mr. Threehorn to the punch and tells him that he and Sparky will leave the valley…for entirely different reasons, leaving Mr. Threehorn with some food for thought.

At some point before they leave, the Big Water group runs into Ozzy and Strut again, and Pangaea convinces them to come with, claiming that there is easier food to be had down by the coast.

Not much of what happens between the group’s leaving the valley and arriving at the Big Water has been decided yet, but I thought that they would travel along the same route that the gang took in LBT IX, probably with some humorous “filler” scenes (I had one in mind involving the crickets that swarmed the gang in the movie) along the way.

It is during this journey that Gigano (the aforementioned Giganotosaurus) is introduced (having presumably made it to the mainland after LBT V and been stalking the coast ever since), and begins following the group. Ultimately he tracks them back to the Great Valley, where he meets Red Claw. I had the idea that the group could run into Red Claw just before they reach the valley, but then Gigano catches up to them and has a short confrontation with Red Claw. On the plus side, this allows the group to escape, but Red Claw ends up being impressed by Gigano’s persistence and combat skills, and asks him to become his ally.

While at the Big Water, the group also encounters the Liopleurodon from LBT IX, which presumably makes several killer-whale-style ambush attacks from the water’s edge.

Subplot 3: Chronicler

Chronicler, Ruby, Claw (Myrkin), and Chomper leave the valley to find a cure for Claw (who was poisoned earlier by Sierra and Rinkus) in the area of the Mysterious Beyond where Ruby’s family lives. At the same time, Chronicler, who is desperate to return home, tries to find out how the GOF members were brought to the LBT universe in the first place. He suspects that the rainbow faces from LBT VII are responsible, so he attempts to seek one out for questioning. He meets a fast biter who can speak Leafeater (and is an outcast because of it), and asks him to capture a rainbow face for him, in exchange for information on weapons and battle strategies that will give the fast biter superior status among his kind. Chronicler also discovers a deposit of iron ore, and brings some back to the valley, using the Smoking Mountain to forge it into a crude sword. The fast biter returns to him, having caught and questioned a rainbow face (but not received any evidence that Chronicler’s hunch was true), and gives him false information in exchange for an iron ore sample, an opportunity to examine the sword, and some other information that enables him to manufacture his own sword.

At some point, the talking fast biter meets up with Screech and Thud (who have already left Red Claw) and convinces them to help him. (I had the idea that he asks for their aid in creating a sword of his own in exchange for helping them “assassinate” the individuals they desire revenge against, but I don’t know yet if Chronicler approves of it). Eventually they launch an attack on the Great Valley, with the talking fast biter wielding a sword of his own. This leads to a confrontation (and eventual swordfight) with Chronicler in front of the other characters, in which Chronicler is revealed to have given the fast biter the aforementioned weapons/combat information, appearing as a traitor as a result.

Subplot 4: Rob the Fast Biter

This last subplot, which, as far as I know, takes place mainly in the Great Valley, has not been as thoroughly delineated as the others I have described. It basically involves Rob’s (LBTFan13) character coping with being a fast biter (having mysteriously become stuck as one after being bitten by Thud during the previous night’s battle). Many of the valley dinosaurs mistrust him and fear that he will turn on him as a result of his change. (As I mentioned in my last post, Mr. Threehorn is actually one of the valleyers who is on Rob’s side.) At some point, Rob engages in a one-on-one battle with Thud (the same fast biter who bit him, which helps to redeem him in the eyes of the valley dinosaurs. (I’m not sure exactly where this will fit in with the events of the other subplots I have described; it could be before or after Screech and Thud abandon Red Claw. I’ll leave it up to Rob to decide.)

I’ll let Chronicler and Rob fill in the details I missed or glossed over in the last two subplots. ;)

Any questions or suggested additions? Once we decide on who will take which characters (that’ll be the subject of my next post), I think we can go back to playing. :yes

Wow!!! That's definitely more detailed than what I could explain!! AWESOME!! I love them all; I barely kept myself from spazzing out whilst reading it and only kept calm-ish because my sister's sleeping. :DD

I love these subplots ( :lol crickets!! I already lovin' that!!) and I can soooo see everyone spreading rumors about me in the Great Valley just cause I'm different(ah man, it's like preschool-to-12th-grade all over again :smile ). And then, Mr. Threehorn having a little 'talk' with us... Mr Threehorn...the dino-equivalent of my dad.... Yipes!! I love it!! I can't wait for all this to happen!! *has a silent spazz attack*

Ooooo!! Plus being in the Mysterious Beyond gives me a greater chance of seeing all my favorite characters!! It's a win/win situation!!

Red Claw, Stromer, and Gigano working together is still kick.....butt....AWESOME!!! *REEAAALLLLYYYY wishes there was a spazzing emoticon* Though I do wonder what accomplishments they would make while in alliance with each other. Hmmm....

And one MORE thing: Yay to the magical liopleurodon!!!

I personally like all the idea's, Pangaea, they seem well thought-out and in my opinion seem very straight forward and to the point, so I think we can pull them off. Okie-dokie, we might have our plot-points, and once we figure them out, we'll be able to get back into this thing and start posting again. Sounds good to me. ;)

I wonder which plots my 2 oc's could fit into.  Mim and Flapper, if any.  I'm sure Petrie will go whichever his friends are going into.

There is one sub-plot I had going with Amy before she left involving my OC Longtail and his insecurities and anger issues. That is where Amy would've accidently bumped into him, and upon explaining his problems she was going to calm him down, and help him see a more rational side to address what to do about his personal problems.  However with Amy now gone indefinitely, I'm not sure how well this plot will hold up.

Maybe someone else can bump into Longtail or something similar and the sub plot can progress in a similar way as it would have with Amy.

That might work Kor, but now it raises an interesting question. Which member of the GOF would have the courage to try and talk to a emotionally unstable, easily angered, half sharptooth whose been known to bite first and ask questions later. :DD

Here's an idea Rick: What about Littlefoot? He really hasn't interacted with many characters beside Rob and Zaine, and I'm sure he would be able to think of something to say to calm Longtail down. Or if you want a little more conflict, you could have Longtail and Rob speak with each other.

Sorry for not replying earlier, I've just been a little busy recently.

I agree with all the ideas we have so far. Now, to fill in the stuff Pangaea missed on my subplot.

My character and the talking Fast-Biter, at the end of their first meeting near Ruby's home, agree to meet again in three days near Saurus Rock, due to being an easy place for both of them to reach.

As my character's group is heading back to the Great Valley with the iron, they are heading down a mountainside when my character slips, accidentally dumps the load of iron, and dislocates his leg. Refusing to go anywhere without the iron, my character asks Claw and Chomper to go to the Great Valley to get help. Eventually, a pack of Fast-Biters appear. My character is unable to stand, so he convinces Ruby that she will have to fight them off with his bamboo stick. She is able to hold them off for some time, but it's not enough. The help from the Great Valley comes at the last minute and they drive off the Fast-Biters. After getting carried back to the valley, my character is forced to spend the entire next day sitting in the cave to allow his leg to heal.

The following day is when my character forges his sword, which means that it is the following night the he meets with the talking Fast-Biter for a second time. Although he has enlisted help from Screech and Thud and they did capture a Rainbowface and question him, Screech and Thud lost patience and killed the Rainbowface. My character asks the talking Fast-Biter to find and capture another Rainbowface, and this time keep him alive. For not getting much information, my character also gives a little information: use rocks. The talking Fast-Biter understands the message and uses the strategy of pushing boulders off a cliff to injure prey. Word of this unheard of strategy eventually reaches the Great Valley.

The three Fast-Biters eventually capture and question another Rainbowface, but he doesn't have the information my character seeks. Desperate for whatever knowledge my character can offer, the talking Fast-Biter decides to give false information to my character when they next meet, which is at night at Saurus Rock three days after the previous meeting.

I don't know how much time will pass between that third meeting and the attack. Once my character finds out what's going on, he realizes something isn't right. Having lost patience a while ago, my character asks the talking Fast-Biter to take him to the Rainbowface to confirm the information, even though this causes everyone around them to realize that my character has been a traitor. The Fast-Biter contently admits that he lied. This enrages my character enough to engage the Fast-Biter in a sword fight.

Obviously, that leaves a few days with nothing for my character to do. I've thought about what kind of a hobby my character could do during this time, but I'll mention it when we get to that point. For now, I'll try not to come up with any more ideas.

Ya know, having both Littlefoot and Rob would certainly serve to both give Littlefoot more interaction time, and let Rob see further into what truly drives Longtail's mind. That would certainly work.

And to Chronicler I know the rainbow faces your fast-biters encounter are meant to be one off characters, but maybe, just maybe if you'd allow it, the next Rainbow face they could capture would be Cyrix. It would allow him to interact with other characters, and based on the description you gave, Cyrix certainly wouldn't know anything about what your character is looking for. Just some food for thought. :smile

Claw may rather insist that the group should take Chronicler back to the Valley first and then return for iron, since protecting the life is more important.

You know, that's not a bad idea, GVG. It seems interesting. Of course, once the Fast-Biters are done questioning Cyrix, the talking Fast-Biter tells him they would let him go as long as he promised not to tell anyone about this event, being careful to not reveal who it is that's demanding those answers. He does this because he knows there's a chance Cyrix could escape, so it would be best to let him go anyway, but also making sure that the information is kept secret.

Myrkin, although that would make sense, I think we should realize that this is something the characters didn't expect and don't have much time to think. We've been planing this event for about a month now, I think, and now you finally come up with that idea. That shows me how realistic it would be for none of the character to even consider that idea in such a spontaneous situation. I'm not sure if that made any sense, but basically I think the original idea is good enough as is.

Sorry for being gone so long guys, been at the hospital. My pc's been on ever since so that's why I was still online  :lol

Anyway I must say I find all these plots very interesting...and as I side not my eyes not hurt from reading all those comments at once.

Right now my OC is just engaged in small talk which leaves him open to near any plot available. From the looks of it he may join the Big Water gang just for the fun of it.
Stromer, the Spinosaurus seems more difficult to place into the plot, perhaps since Gigano is already following the Big Water group I could have him follow the group that goes to find a cure for Claw?

I'll be happy to fill in character slots which are needed for the plot to progress.

Just as a side note I was thinking of giving my OC a special ability, the ability to transform into a Spinosaurus but this is only triggered via anger.

Now that sounds like a good idea Chronicler. And I can guarantee that Cyrix will try at least once to escape before he's let go. And while Cyrix is one of the best at keeping secrets, he would certainly be conflicted with keeping this one, simply because it's a fast-biter asking the questions. But I say we go with it. :yes

Correction, Chronicler, I finally SPEAK about this idea. :p

And it is equally probable (in the same period of time) for our characters to come up with this idea as with idea of leaving you behind and going for help.

Sorry to keep everyone waiting again. :slap

Contrary to what my lack of posting might suggest, I really want to continue this RP. I don't believe it's vital that we assign all of Rat_lady7's former characters to new players before we continue, so I think we could start posting again at any time if everyone agrees, and continue to discuss the plot and untaken characters in the meantime.

Rob, do you think you could take Mr. Threehorn? Or would someone else like to play him?

Quote from: vonboy,Mar 21 2011 on  07:57 PM
I'd like to take up another charecter to control. It's kind of boring only controlling myself. Could I possibly control Redclaw?
I hate saying no to a request like this, :oops but I had been planning on picking up Red Claw. I've played him before-the last time Amy left the RP in my hands-and he's just about the only one of her characters who I think I could handle well. (I feel like I should take over at least one of Amy's characters, as part of the responsibility of becoming GM.) The others-Mr. Threehorn, Rebecca, Tria, and Pterano-I'm afraid I just couldn't be spontaneous with; basically I'd end up neglecting them.

I had this idea in my head of playing some of the music from the first LBT movie to Littlefoot. (Maybe I have a Ipod on me that still had some charge left?)

Since we've already revealed to a lot of the Great Valley characters that they are a fictional story in out universe, I think this might work. I think it could be something really emotional for Littlefoot, Especially if I played "We'll be together" for him.
I don't mind if you use this idea, though. :)

I have to leave now, I'm afraid, but I'll be back this evening to address other recent posts.

There's no need to apologize Pangaea. I understand how hectic life can be sometimes, so just try not to stress yourself out too much over this. I can certainly take Mr. Threehorn Pangaea ;)

I won't take Pterano if you would rather have somebody else play as him, since I will have four characters now. Otherwise, I can certainly take him as well. I agree that since you've already had experience playing Red Claw that it would be more convenient for you to have him (no offense to whoever wanted him originally).

I like the idea of playing "If We Hold On Together" for Littlefoot, but I'm guessing he would know all the other songs since he sang them all (correct me if I'm wrong). You could play them anyway just to show how much of an impact the gang's adventures have made on everybody.

I'd be happy to take Pterano if no one else will, I enjoy playing his character.
