One month since its release, the new MLP movie, A New Generation, has been doing amazingly well, becoming the #1 kids movie on Netflix in dozens of countries, and in some countries even reaching #1 movie overall. This could be a good sign that G5 might become just as successful as G4.

Elsewhere, it seems that the G5 content we can expect to see next year will consist of a one-hour special in May, followed by the start of Season 1 of the series in September, and then followed by a one-hour holiday special (the last one being something we've never heard of until now).

Shortly before the movie was released, among the preview videos were two of the songs featuring lyrics with various clips ("Glowin' Up" and "Gonna Be My Day", to be specific). Now, another song from the movie has been given a similar music video, this time it's "Fit Right In":

Izzy was probably my favorite pone, liked how she was Pinkie without the sugar high, seemed slightly more present.

I never bothered listening to the officially released soundtrack, but I've heard that it includes extended versions of all the songs. I mention this because two of those songs are included in some recent videos.

The storyboard animatic version of another song from the movie was just released, this one for "Fit Right In". You may notice the voices and music sound a little different in this early concept version, so I think (based on what I recall from a behind-the-scenes video about the Lego Movie) this was made with placeholder voicework before the actual voice actors recorded any lines.

I'm not sure why I did this, but I wanted to study how MLP handled species ratios throughout the years, and built a spreadsheet:



Couple interesting patterns here in how the franchise handled it:
*Gen I: Two of every species
*Gen II: Just Earth ponies, apparently they abandoned mythical horse spinoffs
*Gen III: This time there was a pair of characters who had the gimmick of "is a pegasus" and "is a unicorn", with the rest of the cast being Earth ponies.
*Gen IV: Went back to two of each species (far from the only thing Lauren Faust stole from Gen 1, you can tell she mostly grew up with Gen I and ignored where the franchise had gone after she grew out of it)

Which leads to Gen 5, which is weird in that there are only 5 protagonists, it's missing the second unicorn. Maybe they'll add one later or she got cut for other reasons? It's also the first generation to have a stallion in the main cast, which is kinda crazy

A recent interview with the movie's director revealed a few things of interest, but it was done in Spanish, which I'm not fluent enough in to bother watching the video. Part 4 of the G1/G4 crossover miniseries comics released today, and it seems we finally get to see the two generations of ponies actually meet each other in this one. Here's an extended preview of it:

Also, we now have a video of the storyboard animatic version of the first song in the G5 movie, "Gonna Be My Day". Compared to the final version seen in the movie, it seems much of this early version is familiar but arranged in a different order.

And apparently not yet reported on Equestria Daily is this storyboard animatic uploaded by the same account on the same day, showing the scene where Sprout essentially is in full control over the factory (and again, it's interesting to see which words were changed between this early version and the final version seen in the movie).

The fifth and final part of the G1/G4 crossover miniseries comics has just released, and since we've yet to hear any news regarding upcoming MLP comic releases, this is essentially the last piece of new G4 content for the foreseeable future. Here's a five-page extended preview:

Lots of big news announced yesterday and earlier today!

First up, the next official MLP comic will focus on the G5 main ponies, with the first issue coming out in May, the same month when that one-hour special will be released.

Speaking of which, that one-hour special will be available to watch on May 26, and the first season of the series will begin on September 26, both on Netflix, and apparently both of them will be titled "Make Your Mark".

There's also the holiday special, which will be out on November 26 and titled "Winter Wishday".

In addition to the Netflix series (which will use the same 3D animation as the New Generation movie we've seen), there will also be a weekly series on YouTube that will use 2D animation, will begin on April 7, and will be titled "Tell Your Tale".

Finally, it has been confirmed that the Main 5 ponies will have a completely different cast of voice actors for both series than what we saw with the New Generation movie.

I'm definitely excited by all of this news. I think it's amazing that G5 will be getting two series running almost simultaneously, with the only confirmed difference being the animation styles. What do you think about all that has been revealed recently?

Not super impressed with the 2D artstyle, but that wasn't much of a showcase so maybe it works better with voice-acting and a full background/storyline.

Looks like my prediction that they were gonna add a 6th main character who was a unicorn didn't happen. I still suspect they had one and dropped her at some point in development, and if they ever need to shake things up nothing's stopping them from adding one later

A few more details regarding the upcoming G5 content.

Tell Your Tale, the 2D series that'll be on YouTube starting on April 7, will have a total of at least 70 episodes, each 5 minutes long and released weekly, and will apparently focus more on slice-of-life content.

Make Your Mark, the 3D series that'll be on Netflix on September 26 (after the 44-minute special of the same name that'll come out on May 26), the first season will consist of 8 episodes, each 22 minutes long, will supposedly be the more story-driven series, and considering how Netflix typically releases its original content, it's probable the entire season will come out all at once.
(I'm afraid I can't find any sources specifying this information, but from what I'm hearing, that's the official word on this series.)

Definitely a lot to look forward to, starting a couple months from now.

Last week, an official console video game for G5 MLP was announced with a brief description, some images, and a release date of May 27 (the day after the Make Your Mark 44-minute special comes out on Netflix).

And earlier today, a trailer for that game was released (also confirming that it'll be available on all the major gaming consoles and platforms).

I have to admit, seeing as this game will be available on Steam, I just might be tempted to actually purchase this game for myself, though likely not until some time after it becomes available.
