The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Cale looked away.
"Well, technically...they weren't lying.  I wasn't always on the same side as everyone else..."
He said guiltily...

Just then Dr. Zanasiu's radio beeped. "Doc Z. Where the hell have you been? You sacred the ever living crap out of us when you vanished for a few hours!"

"Sorry Doc B, we were eating lunch. But we found some new staff."

"Doc Z, orient the new staff and report back. Doc B out."

Dr. Zanasiu looked at the group. "Okay it is settled, head to ADSA HQ, then go to control room." He then took a deep breath. "Anthony is a high priority target, we must protect him at all costs." He then turned to Wayne. "Mr. Anthony, can you use a weapon?"

Zachary handed Dr. Zanasiu and Alfred back their shotguns, which they gratefully accepted.

"Better than most. I grew up on a farm," replied Wayne. "And Cale, at least you're on our team now."

He pointed deeper into the kitchen. "The quickest way to HQ is through the meat lockers in the kitchen. We'll have to wait a few minutes while the kitchen staff clears out, which doesn't take long. Until then, I can tell you briefly what we've learned about Dragonstorm."

Dr. Zanasiu nodded. "Okay, shoot."

The sounds of the kitchen staff cleaning up could be heard.

Wayne started. "Obviously we have loads of small clues we've pieced together, like new encrypted files from Lab 101 almost every day, hallway sightings of large groups of former prisoners, and a mysteriously large group of locked documents with titles initialed "DS", but currently none of the ADSA members have clearance into Lab 101, so we had very little actual proof.

"We do know that they have a meeting every day, usually around lunchtime, but the Dragonstorm members that attend the meeting cycle, so any one scientist usually meets about once every three days. Some of them we've managed to pin down further, for example, O'Neill goes to the meeting on Mondays and Thursdays. We know someone has taken the place of Dr. Zenarchis as leader of Dragonstorm, but they've done a good job of keeping their identity secret. We don't think they attend meetings.

"The Pelvanida board of directors knows about Dragonstorm. Of this we're certain. We're not certain if they're directly involved or just turning a blind eye, but they aren't ignorant. This makes us think Dragonstorm might be a government sanctioned project, but we aren't positive, and not all of us agree on that point.

"We have a number of intercepted documents, usually ones sent via the Internet, but like we said, the titles are random other than having "DS" initials, and the actual documents are jibberish. We think it's some kind of code, but it's not really something we can crack.

"Oh, and one final thing. When Marty, the head technician, did a massive rewiring of the electrical system, he accidentally discovered an extra gas pipe hidden at the end of the pipe room. It appears to lead to Lab 101, which makes us think they cremate the experiments that don't survive the cyber/psionic process."

Ridley turned to Hawkeye, communicating with the other cyber-experiment.
"Ridley says that they do cremate failed experiments, but...it's also used on experiments who resist the neural reprogramming.  Meaning that they still feel the flames..."
Hawkeye said, sounding disgusted...

Dr. Kerzach, Dr. Zanasiu and Zachary all made faces of disgust at the information that Ridley revealed.

"All the more reason to stop this abomination." Dr. Zanasiu said.

Alfred looked around and noticed that the lights in the cafeteria had been dimmed. "Guys, we're clear."

"Okay, then let's go. Mr. Anthony, lead the way." Zachary said.

Dr Joe fiddled with the pad until she found the cell number of the experiment X-278, and it was in the same hallway they're in.  The door was opened, but there's no telling if the allegedly dangerous experiment was still inside.  For a place originally meant for more project failures and isolation of uncooperative experiments, so far Shade had proved an exception.  Perhaps there are several more experiments here that are as friendly.

Vic unhooked Shade from the blood transfer machine.  "Neku?  How you doing?"

----------

"No trouble at all," Ariol replied.  "We also have about 3 hours before more planes come in to move Dragonstorm out.  As soon as we find these intruders, we'll make a clean sweep of the base.  Any idea where Delta squad is?"

----------

The guard radioed in, and soon two jeeps pulled up, one of which had a massive Browning 50-cal machine gun mounted on it.  "This way, please," the guard gestured.

Neku chuckled.
"Heh...Feels like I've been on the inside of a drum..."
He said tiredly, looking at his arm...

"We're looking for one more donor right now.  You think you can sprout a new arm with your lizard genetics?" Vic asked.

Dr Joe carefully walked to the cell doorway and looked inside.  She had to look deeper into a dark corner to finally spot something within, shaking fearfully...

Wayne nodded. "Quietly now. There are no doors, and the kitchen echoes."

Wayne led the way into the eerily quiet kitchen. Dim light gleamed off the various metal utensils and polished surfaces dotting the walls and floor.

Behind the kitchen was a meat locker.

"Try not to touch the meat, please. Especially you," Wayne said to Shelton. "You'll contaminate it."

"Well, excuse me for surviving a copter crash," Shelton muttered, but gave the meat a wide berth.

Wayne stood in front of the west wall and knocked 'Shave and a Haircut' on it. "Nixon's original office was here," he explained, referring to the head chef, "but when the base underwent it's massive renovations, he staked out a new spot further from the meat locker. Complained about it always being so cool. We replaced the door with solid wall and made a secret entrance here so that others wouldn't know about the room still existing. According to maps it's just an extension of the meat locker."

The door clicked open, and Wayne ushered everyone in. "It's going to be a tight fit," he apologized in advance.

There were two men already in the room. One was a tall Bengal tiger, obviously a scientist. The other was a young man with blond hair and glasses.

"Dr. Bradley, and his assistant Riley," Wayne introduced.

"Pleasure to meet you. Dr. Bradley and Mr. Riley." Dr. Zanasiu said.

Zachary, Dr. Kerzach and Alfred introduced themselves.

Dr. Zanasiu's radio beeped. "Doc Z, there's some life signs heading towards you. And I think it may be another squad of hostiles."

Alfred sighed. "We'll need to conceal ourselves in this area until that squad leaves."

--------------------------

Dr. Branston looked at his monitor.  He bought up a list of formed squads. He selected Delta squad and tapped Delta Leader's symbol, which was a gold delta symbol.

The screen shifted to a map near the cafeteria. "Ariol, Delta leader and her squad are near the cafeteria."

"Pleas--" Dr. Bradley started, but his assistant cut him off.

"Blimey, you're Dr. Zanasiu and his team!" Riley blurted out excitedly. "All the work we've done is thanks to you! We've also been working to stop--"

"I daresay they already know our name and purpose," interrupted Bradley patiently, "or they would not have willingly been brought here."

Wayne handed Bradley the flashdrive. "Dr. Shelton retrieved these files from the Lab 101 computers."

Bradley's eyebrows raised. "This may be the last surviving copy. The computers were destroyed in what was claimed to be a 'freak shortout.' "

"Oh, there was a freak, but it was of the flesh-and-titanium bone kind," added Shelton. "Me and Kerzach were there."

Riley had the files open and were reading them with wide eyes. "They're all in code! Just like everything we've already got!"

Wayne sighed. "Then we're back to square one. We still don't know how to translate their code."

"There'll probably be something that could help in the Dragonstorm lab," said Shelton. "Behind the freezer."

"You mean the one we can't get to?" said Alfred. "The entrance is still locked."

"We know the keypad code already. All we need is a security card. We just saw O'Neill leave the cafeteria. Maybe we could catch up with him and 'borrow' his."

Ridley, who was hovering in the air to minimize the space he took up, began beeping excitedly.
"Ridley says that there won't be a need to break in, or at least he doesn't think so.  He recognizes the code.  Apparently, it's actually the same code used in standardizing the Dragonstorm project's Neural nets.  He should be able to translate at least some of the data, and failing that, access security doors like the one we need to get past."
Hawkeye said, translating for his new friend...

Wayne raised his eyebrows. "Awesome!" he said. "Since it's in code, we can't actually tell what's more important than something else, but if you want to start skimming, just let us know when you find anything useful."

Ridley slid out of the way, offering the seat in front of the computer.

Delta squad entered the darkened cafeteria, sweeping around with their gun lights.

Delta leader gestured for 3 of her men to examined the cafeteria while she took the remaining 4 men and headed for the kitchen.

----------------

Dr. Zanasiu's radio beeped. "Doc Z, the sensors show hostiles in the cafeteria, including the kitchen. Doc B out."

Dr. Zanasiu turned to Anthony. "Wayne, we'll need to seal the door. I've got word that hostiles are here. "

"Then I'll send 2 of my hunters to vice our 'guests' in," Ariol replied.  "The rest of us will be heading down to sanitize the base before they reach the main reactor."

"They've done passes before, and never found us," said Wayne, but he looked nervous. "None of you were tracked, right?"

Dr. Bradley pulled the flashdrive out of the computer and gave it back to Shelton. "I'm ready to fight if I must," he said, unclipping a silver Desert Eagle from his belt.

Dr. Shelton retreated to the far side of the desk. "I'm not!"
