The Gang of Five
Howdy, everyone!

As you know, the forum has been fighting spammers and bots for years. We have seen our fair share of "Custom Kitchens UK", scammy Internet hosting companies, and bots trying to send us to a business's homepage. But after fighting the tidal wave of spam for so many years, the admins had a persistent thought: what if the spammers are right? Not in terms of posting nonsense links and trying to scam our users, but in trying to make money through our unique platform?

Well, thanks to the helpful counsel of Taunt, we have finally decided to move the forum in a new direction. Please see his important post on the matter in this topic

Grumbling a little, Screech and Thud headed in the direction from which the sound and smell of the approaching leafeaters was coming. Screech especially was unsure about this; even if Thud was right that the leafeaters wouldn’t make any attempt to crush him as long as he held the glider, he would have very little chance if the herd managed to surround or corner him. His confidence was hardly bolstered when the two of them came within view of the herd.

By the Bright Circle!” Screech exclaimed, “I didn’t think this many leafeaters would show up!” He glanced down incredulously at his feathery red captive. “Is this scruffy gliding thing that important to them?!

Maybe he’s highly respected because he took you on and got away with it,” Thud suggested.

Oh, shut up,” Screech growled. He looked again at the oncoming herd.

He counted at least three…no, four longnecks; a smallish, though apparently full-grown swimmer; a fast biter and two fast runners (Oh, them again! he thought angrily as he recognized them); two rainbow faces; a longtailed flyer and a blue crested flyer; and a worryingly familiar-looking threehorn, with the other glideróthe teal-colored oneóperched on his head. And was that the infuriating little biter who hung out with those kid leafeaters? There was even one or two of those freaky two-legged creatures that had mysteriously started appearing in and around the Great Valley over the last two days. There was one dinosaur, however, that Screech couldn’t find…

Oh, just our luck!” he snarled. “I don’t see the brown flyer with them!” He sniffed the air. “Or smell her, either!

Uh-oh,” Thud said. “Uhh…could she be hiding?

Screech took another whiff. “Well, there are a lot of smells. I guess it could be mixed in there somewhere.

Should we tell Red Claw?” Thud asked.

No, we should just do what he told us and keep them occupied until everyone’s in place.

--------------------------------------------------

Pangaea was a little relieved to see that such a large rescue party had arrived. He figured it would at least give them better chances of surviving the fast biter onslaught once it started.

However, seeing so many dinosaurs come to rescue him also made Pangaea feel a little self-conscious. They all came to help me? he thought with amazement. Am I really that important to them?

He spotted Guido at the front of the party atop Mr. Threehorn’s head. He must have spearheaded the whole thing. What a friend, he thought warmly. If I get out of this alive, he’s in for the gratitudinal bear hug of his life. Still, Pangaea’s anxiety regarding the impending conflict remained sky-high.

Claw spoted a two fastbiters, Screech and Thud, approaching leafeaters herd with Pangea as captive. They'd stopped some dsitance from flatteeth rescue party and were waiting for something.

"I think it's negotiation time." Claw said to others. Red Claw wasn't with those two fastbiters, so there was no need to send more than few dinosaurs to talk with Screech and Thud "Since it was your idea, Chronicler, you should rather take point and me and Chomper will follow you" he spoke to white fastrunner.

"You folks be careful."  Mim said to Claw and the others.  "No telling if they are up to something or not." She said suspiciously, not trusting the situation or the fast biters.

Grandpa Longneck nodded, "Yes, be careful.  We are in the mysterious beyond and may not be totally alone as it seems." He said his tail flicking a bit in his nervousness that he felt, but he remained as calm in his voice, face and demeanor as he could.

Flapper kept his stick/club laying on one of his shoulders as he looked around, seeing if there were any other sharpteeth or fast biters he could see, but saying nothing fo now.

"Don't worry, if those Fast-Biters don't give us what we want, I'll make sure to slam their heads together again," said Chronicler, referring to how he had previously defeated Screech and Thud. "Alright, let's do this." He then walked towards the Fast-Biters, with Ruby staying close to him.

Once Chronicler got as close to them as he safely felt, he and Ruby stopped. "Now what?" asked Ruby, unsure about what was about to happen.

Chronicler said, "We'll start with our basic request. Chomper, tell them this: 'We demand that you let our friend go. There is no reason for him to be a victim in all this.'"

Rebecca landed on top of one the dinosaurs to rest her wings for a bit. She also thought over how her children must be doing.

I REALLY hope Petrie and the others aren't off running again, if they are, gah...well I would have to talk to him about it later.

She shook her thoughts away as she marveled at the sight of the many fast biters crowding around.

If a fight breaks loose, this is going to be excessively ugly.
-------------
Tria slowed down a bit so to not make too much noise for the fast biters to hear. Amy kept a watchful eye or any suspicious activity in their surroundings, though she rightfully knew that things were bound to happen at any rate, at any time.

As they walked Tria tried to have a conversation with the cream and brown flyer, which to Amy's dismay was not quite what she wanted at that moment, for it distracted her looking out for both of them.

"My dear, from what I understand correctly, you and your friends are from somewhere called the GEE-OH-EFF and also from America, is that right?"

Amy sighed and politely stated, "Yes ma'm we're from America, well, some of us are. The GOF is more like a club dedicated to...a...uh...dinosaurs such as yourself. And America is where I'm from, though if you ask some other peop-er dinosaurs, they would tell you they would be from other places called "countries". It's really complicated..."

Despite Amy struggling a bit for definitions that would make it easy for the pink Three Horn to understand, Tria just nodded patiently as the flyer yaked on about where she was from.

As Amy was talking however, Tria was also thinking about her daughter Tricia and Cera, hoping that they would still be in the Great Valley.

I hope the girls are save and sound, I know Topsy has told me that they can run off at times.

Then suddenly it hit her. Topsy and the others were looking for someone, it probably wasn't Amy, for Amy told her that she only told one person that she left. The fact that the Great Valley was a ghost town made Tria utterly suspicious and knew that in fact her valley was in peril and searching for something.
-----------
Meanwhile, Red Claw waited patiently for something to begin, though he did feel a stirring in the air of something big, no, something of many feet coming their way. He would have easily thought it was more fast biters, but with his much more heightened senses of smell and hearing, he knew the dinosaurs were here, and they possibly had her..right there for him. Little did he know however, he was in for a great and terrible surprise.

Rob stood with tension as the negotiations began. He looked around, noticing more fast biters crowding around, as if they were preparing to strike. He kept his hands down by his waist, but he remained in a defensive state. If one of these fast biters was going to preemptively strike, he had to be ready. "I don't like the looks of this," he said out loud. "Something feels very wrong here."

Littlefoot noticed that the group had started interacting with Screech and Thud. It came off as a surprise to him, as if he expected them to have started fighting. "That's strange," he muttered.

Zaine noticed his confusion. "What's wrong Littlefoot? What's happening?"

Littlefoot shook his head. "I don't know. They aren't fighting yet. It's almost like they are talking to them or something."

Zaine was now confused. "What the heck are they thinking?"

"I think they're trying to settle this without a fight," Littlefoot concluded. "I think they're trying to negotiate for Pangaea's release."

"I don't like the looks of this, either," Anna agreed with Rob.  "Who knows how many of these fastbiters there could be?"

-----------------------

"That's weird," Cera spoke up as she watched the negotiation begin.

"Look," Ducky gasped as she pointed out a fastbiter that was hiding behind some rocks from the grownups.  "That is a fastbiter.  It is, it is."

"Yeah, and it's looking at the grownups like they're food," Cera pointed out.

"What do we do?  We have to do something.  This is not good, oh no no no," Ducky whispered.

"If it were up to me, I'd show those fastbiters whose boss," Cera snorted.

Screech and Thud stared with baffled expressions as the two fast runners, the fast biter, and the sharptooth kid approached them. Screech flexed his sickle claws in anticipation of a fight, but Thud uttered a low, purr-like growl that told him to wait. Having spoken once before to the young sharptooth, Thud addressed him.

What’s this about?” he growled, his eyes narrowed in suspicion, “What do you want?

“Guys!” Pangaea squawked, desperate to inform Chronicler and the others of the situation, “they’re setting a trap for Amy, but she isn’t here! She left the valley withó” His words were cut offóalmost literallyóas one of Screech’s claws flicked to his throat and pressed down. Pangaea dared not speak, fearing that if he did, his throat would be sliced open.

Not one peep out of you,” Screech hissed threateningly. He may not have understood Leafeater, but he clearly recognized what Pangaea was trying to do.

"Alright" Chomper said to Chronicler with a nod of his head, then he addressed Thud:

"We demand that you let our friend go. There is no reason for him to be a victim in all this."

Flapper, Grandpa Longneck and Mim waited with the others to see what the outcome of the talking and negotiation would be.

(ooc: Sorry for the short post but not sure what to post and don't have a lot of time since I'll be busy in a bit and for most of the afternoon.)

Screech was stunned for a moment when Chomper spoke to him and Thud. “You came all the way up here with a whole herd backing you, and you’re asking me to let this scraggly ball of…stickly, fluffy stuff go?” he asked incredulously. “As if any self-respecting sharptooth would just hand over his prey like that! DO I even need to tell you my answer?

Thud rolled his eyes at Screech’s rant and stepped forward to interject. “What’s in it for us, Little Biter?” he asked.

Chomper turned to Chronicler and translated, "Screech definitely won't let him go, and Thud wants to know what's in it for them."

"Yeah, I expected a response like that," said Chronicler.

"If you knew they would say that, then why did you ask it in the first place?" asked Ruby.

"I figured it would be best to at least let them know what we wanted." Chronicler then thought for a few seconds. "Alright, tell them this: 'Perhaps we could offer a trade. What do you want in return for our friend's release?'"

"Are you sure that's a good idea to ask them that?" asked Ruby

"We don't have to go through with it," replied Chronicler. "I just want to know what they want, now that they know what we want."

Chomper translated, "Perhaps we could offer a trade. What do you want in return for our friend's release?"

We don’t want anything,” Thud said, “but Red Claw wants that brown flyer who blinded him.

Oh, yes,” Screech said. “Give us the flyer and you can have the glider.

…after I’m done with him,” he added under his breath, “if there’s anything left.

Chomper didn't catch that last part Screech said, which might as well have been a good thing. Chomper translated, "They said Redclaw wants the brown Flyer that blinded him. They will give us back Pangaea once they have that Flyer."

"The brown Flyer that blinded him?" repeated Chronicler. "I know I've seen her before, but I can't remember her name. What was it?"

"I think her name was Amy," said Chomper.

"Yes, that is her name, her name is Amy," said Ruby.

Not willing to let anyone be an unwilling victim, Chronicler said, "We better bring her into these talks." He turned back to the crowd of leaf-eater dinosaurs behind him and asked, "Does anybody know where Amy is?" Since they were a bit of a distance away, he had to shout to make sure everyone heard him.

A few of them looked at one another. One way or another, their answers were all the same: No.

Ruby then realized something. "Didn't Pangaea just say that Amy had left? That means she's not here, which means we can't bring her into these talks, which means-"

"We'll need a change of plans," interrupted Chronicler. He turned to Chomper and said, "Tell them that Amy isn't here, so they'll need to pick somebody else."

"Are you really going to trade one of us for Pangaea?" asked Ruby.

"I told you, I'm not going to actually go through with it. I just want to know what they want. For all we know, I could be their second pick."

Chomper translated, "That brown Flyer, Amy, is not here. You will need to pick someone else."

"I have a right to collect anything I want. It's just junk anyway."

Meanwhile, Amy and Tria decided to rest for a bit nearby some boulders, to hopefully hide themselves from any unsuspecting predators. Tria sighed and stated, "Amy, do you think my daughter is out here? And I mean both Cera and Tricia?"

Amy shuddered at the thought of any of the kids being under sharptooth's shadow, and figured if this was a typical LBT universe, the kids were well on their way to save the valley from any predators or disasters. However, she decided not to say this for it would make Tria into a panic, so she sighed and stated, "I really don't know ma'm-" However Tria cut her off and said, "Please my dear, you can call me Tria." She smiled at Amy.

Amy restarted her statement, "Er-Tria, I don't know, but I am sure they are safe right now. They're smart kids and I'm sure even if they were in a situation, they would find a way out."

Tria sighed and looked on into the rainy darkness with worry.

"I hope you are right Amy, I really hope you are."

After a slight pause, Amy listened to her surroundings and realized how quiet it seemed minus the ever pouring rain. She decided to jump from Tria's back and scurry up the boulder.

"What are you doing?!" Tria asked worriedly.

Amy ignored her, not meaning to be rude, but she wanted to consentrate on her new, amazing ability to hear and see with great sharpness.

She heard low growls in the distance amongst the dripping rain and howling wind.
---------
Red Claw meanwhile also heard a frightful calmness in the atmosphere. He wondered if any of the fast biters were doing any of their jobs and wondered if this plan was going to work after all.

He walked away from where he stood and used his other sense to identify where he was and where he needed to go. He heard a young sharptooth's growls and automatically recognized the sound, it was Chomper. He also heard his exact words. The brown flyer is gone.

So that's what her name is...Amy.

He walked a little ways, but stayed among the trees to wait. To his great dissapointment, Amy wasn't there he knew, but he knew that wherever Amy was, she would have to come up eventually, she was too loyal of a person to flake out on this herd, especially on the red glider.

She will be mine soon enough...

Thud turned to Screech. “Should we call Red Claw over and ask him if he’s willing to trade the glider for another leafeater?” he whispered. “A longneck, maybe?

Where have you been these last couple of days?” Screech hissed. “Red Claw’s obsessed with that flyer. He’s not interested in anything else. If he had a longneck, he’d trade it to get that flyer. Get it through your thick head that this isn’t about food, it’s about revenge!

Thud rolled his eyes again and turned back to Chomper. “It’s the flyer or nothing,” he said gruffly. “And the longer you make us wait, the more pieces your friend's gonna come back to you in when you finally do make the trade.

Chomper translated, "They say they only want Amy. They will not take anything else. And we better do something fast, or... this won't end well for Pangaea."

Chronicler thought aloud, "Okay, they only want Amy, but we have no idea where she is. We've told them we can't do that deal, but that deal is the only one they'll take, so the best thing we can do is find her, but we have no idea where to look, and we gotta move fast and... GAAAHHH!" He then smacked himself on the head with his bamboo pole in frustration. "This is so frustrating! I'm running out of ideas!" He then pointed at Claw and exclaimed, "Why don't you help!? I'm not hearing you say anything!"

Ruby wisely chose not to say anything at this moment. Chronicler was clearly losing his patience.

Rob could tell Chronicler was losing his patience, but this was the worst time to do so. If he didn't keep calm, he was going to say something he may regret. "Chronicler, that's enough!" he yelled. "This is not the time to be fighting each other here! If we don't handle this right then we lose the only chance we have of saving Pangaea! Pull it together! We have to think of something!" Rob hadn't yelled at somebody like that in a long time, but in a life or death situation like this he knew there was no room for bad emotions like this.

Littlefoot's group had finally reached the spot they were climbing to, and they still had a good view of what was going on. He stepped forward just enough for him to get a clear look at what the rescue party was doing. "Something's up. I don't think Screech and Thud are going for the negotiations."

Zaine noticed Rob was yelling at Chronicler. "Rob certainly is headstrong about serious matters. Guess that means he'll be careful after all."

Flapper stood where he was, looking for a place to sit till whatever was going to happen happened since he had no idea how long it may take.
